War has been your life for as long as you care to remember. You trained as a youth, studied the use of weapons and armor, learned basic survival techniques, including how to stay alive on the battlefield. Through countless battles and brutal onslaughts of training and hellish fights you survived and endured you are now a Arcadian of House Rook.
"You are a Arcadian, whether its by birth or the rite of the foundlings you are now arcadian. you hold the pride and prestige of know this and your scars prove it. Now look too your left and right, these are your brothers and your sister. these are the one who will lay down there lives for you Arcadian. So long as you follow the creed you will forever have the backing of the strongest army at your hands never forget that and long live arcadia!" -The Black Shepherd, Patriarch of House Rook.
- Skill Proficiencies: Athletics, Intimidation, Survival, Medicine
- Tool Proficiencies: One type of gaming set, vehicles (land), healer's kit

During your time as a soldier, you had a specific role to play in your unit or army. Roll a d8 or choose from the options in the table below to determine your role:
d8 | Specialty |
---|---|
1 | Officer |
2 | Scout |
3 | Infantry |
4 | Cavalry |
5 | Healer |
6 | Quartermaster |
7 | Standard bearer |
8 | Support staff (cook, blacksmith, or the like) |
You have a military rank from your Trials as a Arcadian. Arcadians loyal to your former military organization still recognize your authority and influence, and they defer to you if they are of a lower rank. You can invoke your rank to exert influence over other Arcadians and requisition simple equipment or horses for temporary use. You can also usually gain access to friendly military encampments and fortresses where your rank is recognized.

Game balance feedback:
The background appears to be unbalanced when compared to other official backgrounds. It offers a lot more skills and tool proficiencies than usual, which would provide an unfair advantage to the players picking this background instead of the official ones.
DandD Wiki has a great guideline for designing balanced homebrewed backgrounds, stating the following;
"Skill Proficiencies: Every background gets two skill proficiencies.
Tool Proficiencies and Languages: A background can provide a maximum sum total of 2 tool proficiencies and/or languages. Languages and tool proficiencies are considered interchangeable."

Its meant to be this way, as in my world arcadians are elite warrior and though few in numbers they make up for in honing strengths. i appreciate your comment though!
