You simply woke up one day with an enormous gap in your memory, with the only hints as to your shadowy past being a few mysterious belongings and whatever skills you retain - whether they're locked-in muscle memory, or areas of knowledge you cannot explain how you learned.

Perhaps your memory was lost due to a head injury, or was repressed due to severe psychological trauma. Perhaps an evil wizard experimented on you, making you into what you are today. Perhaps you voluntarily erased your own memory through some feat of alchemy or magic. Maybe there are people who used to know you; who still remember who you were and what you've done; or maybe the only person who knew you was you, and now not even you can remember. You might quest to regain your memory yourself, or you might simply seek a new place for yourself in this wide world. After all, you certainly seemed to have found one before...
