You have dedicated yourself to the study and devotion of the Stoneforge. Part articans, part religious devotees Stoneforgers are craftsmen and craftswomen that specialize in crafting all sorts of metal and rock objects, and are able to craft both fine tools and mighty weapons alike. Living a nearly hermit life, Stoneforgers (and their apprentices) live in small communities secluded in mountainous areas. Some Stoneforgers use a more maleable approach and craft their weapons out forges build in the wall of the mountain itself. On the other hand some of the more accomplished arcane Stoneforgers are able to create out of raw rock and stone by magical means.
While most Stoneforgers limit theirselves to perfecting their craft in their own communities, some others strive continue their learning and journey elsewhere for different reasons, be it wanderlust or warmongering.
Disclaimer: This background is mainly inspired by the Magic the Gathering card Stoneforge Mystic (Zendikar) and the character Nahiri. However, in my opinion this background is quite open, and would fit really well in most D&D settings.

As a Stoneforger you are used to work enduring the high temperatures of the roaring fires of the forge while inhabiting the cold and unforgiving environment of the rocky mountain, as well as endure the cold and damp environment of the caves and caverns where the ores you use come from. You have advantage on Ability Checks and Saving Throws required as a consequence of cold or warm environmental conditions, natural or otherwise (i.e. tundra, high mountains, desert, boiler rooms...).
Suggested Characteristics
The Stoneforgers don't have necessarily a single approach to their craft, but rather it can be developed through very different ways. Some Stoneforgers, called Stoneforge Mystics, choose an arcane path to their craft, and while they are able to forge by hand, they specialize in magically craft their tools and weapons. An example of a Stonforge Mystic would be a Cleric of the Forge, a Wizard (specially transmutation), although any arcane class could fit in this camp. Other Stoneforgers on the other hand, have a more physical and malleable approach to their craft, thus specializing in the making of tools and weapons forged in the fire, or magma depending on the region. Due to the physical requirements of such craft, they tend to be skilled combatants, thus Fighters, Rogues, Barbarians and even Kensei Monks fit really well as a Stoneforger as well.
