You are well versed in everything to do with finding and rescuing missing persons and you've traveled the land doing so. You excel at living off the land and any kind of investigation. (Optional balance characteristic: You're actually pretty new at combat and use to relying on others.)
- Skill Proficiencies: Animal Handling, Survival, Investigation, Nature, Medicine
- Tool Proficiencies: Cartographer's tools
- Languages: Nothing special. However given your profession you can "get by" in non-exotic languages, enough to read and decipher basic descriptions of human type creatures. You can audibly pick out words like basic colors or numbers that would generally be found in missing person's descriptions.
- Equipment: A set of artisan’s tools (one of your choice), a shovel, an iron pot, a set of common clothes, 100ft of rope, and a pouch containing 10 gp
You wander the land to find the lost and return them home, often for reward so it's akin to mercenary work. Choose or randomly determine a defining event that made you care for the lost.
| d4 | Defining Event |
|---|---|
| 1 | I saved people during a natural disaster. |
| 2 | I've been abandoned and isolated for so long in my life- all to have one person finally reach out to me. I long to be that person to others. |
| 3 | A family member of mine is out there- somewhere. It's been so long, but I WILL find them. |
| 4 | One fateful day, I saved someone from danger- I felt so good about myself that day that I've just kept up rescuing ever since. |
If you've performed your services in a city, the people in the social class of the people you helped will generally be eager to help you in any way they can, including giving you discounts, tips or helping you hide from enemies. Some may even risk their lives for you if they were personally close to someone you saved. You even have fairly good knowledge of mercenaries in the towns you've been to, as you had to use their services.
Rope proficiency- roll with advantage on anything to do with ropes- tying knots, lassoing, grappling, you name it! Proficient with rope based weapons (but no advantage roll).
You're new at this- (If the DM thinks your utility in many situations is to great, -1 or more to combat roles for balance.)
Suggested Characteristics
A rescuer is a person who will go out of their way to save any sentient creature from danger. You have many friends, few enemies and an ample supply of the faces of those you failed to keep you up at night. You have likely tried to give up the life of a rescuer many times, but as long as you know someone out there needs you, you can't.
