Wounded Survivor Image

 

A battle has left you permanently wounded. You must choose a severe physical war wound like a missing arm or severe burns. These wounds mark the end of your life as a common world denizen and the start of your life as an adventurer and hero.

Tool Proficiencies: One type of Artisan's Tools
Languages: Choose one of your choice
Equipment: An insignia of rank, a trophy taken from a fallen enemy (a dagger, broken blade, or piece of a banner), an Artisan Tool of you choice or deck of cards, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 10 gp
 
Disability

Your last battle has left you permanently scared and you must live your life overcoming this incumbrance. Roll a d6 or choose from the options in the table below to determine your role:

Only one Disability will impact your character, you may choose to flavor your wounds any way you like.

Each Disability comes with its own challenges:

Missing Arm. You may only use single handed weapons with the finesse modifier. You have proficiency with one with one weapon you choose when taking this Disability.

Missing Eye. You have disadvantage on Perception rolls requiring sight. You gain advantage on Wisdom Saves that require line of sight

Severe Burns. You have disadvantage in either Strength or Constitution Saving Throws. You gain Advantage to Dexterity Saving throws

Impaired Hearing. You have disadvantage on Perception rolls requiring Hearing, if an ally tries to communicate with you from farther that 20 feet they must shout at you. You gain advantage on Wisdom Saves with verbal components.

Throat Blade Wound. Spells that require vocal components have a 35 percent chance to fail, you do not loose a spell slot since the spell was not properly completed. You have a +5 to stealth checks.

PTSD. Depending on the nature of your trauma, whenever you experience an event that is reminiscent of said trauma, the DM must ask you for a Wisdom Save DC 12. On a fail you are under the stunned condition for 1 minute or until someone succeeds on either a DC 10 Medicine Check or you take damage. On a save, you make no more saves on any repeating events of the same nature for the next minute. You gain advantage on Wisdom Saves against fear effects

 

These wounds can be treated over the course of a campaign at DM and Player discretion.

You have proven yourself on the battlefield. You have an edge on the battlefield that others have yet to master. You have a +10 to your movement on your first turn. At level 10 you get advantage to initiative

 
Suggested Characteristics

The horrors of war combined with the rigid discipline of military service leave their mark on all warriors, shaping their ideals, creating strong bonds, and often leaving them scarred and vulnerable to fear, shame, and hatred.
