Sentient Object(Magic Attunement) Image

As a Living Artifact, you are a unique entity. Once an ordinary object infused with a powerful magical essence, you have gained sentience and consciousness, transcending your original purpose. Whether through a magical accident, a divine intervention, or the workings of an ancient ritual, you have awakened as a living being, possessing memories and a desire to explore the world.

Skill Proficiencies: You gain proficiency in two skills of your choice. Living Artifacts often develop specialized knowledge or abilities based on their original form or the circumstances of their awakening. Choose skills that reflect the object you are.

Languages: Living Artifacts typically understand and can communicate in the language(s) spoken by the culture or individuals they were once associated with. In addition, you can speak, read, and write one additional language of your choice, representing the knowledge you have acquired since awakening.

Equipment: As a Living Artifact, you exist as a sentient object and do not possess the ability to hold or carry items in a conventional sense. Your physical form is your primary equipment. However, your starting features and abilities as a Living Artifact compensate for the lack of traditional equipment. Instead of receiving starting items, you begin with a unique feature based on your chosen Living Artifact background.

Feel free to work with your Dungeon Master to determine if there are any exceptions or creative solutions to allow your character to interact with objects or equipment in a different way that aligns with the concept of your Living Artifact.

Sentient Object Features

Use the following table to determine the unique feature or ability you possess as a Living Artifact.

Adaptive Form: Your living nature grants you the ability to reshape your form. As an action, you can alter your appearance and transform into an inanimate object of similar size and mass. This transformation lasts for one hour or until you choose to revert to your original form. While transformed, you retain your consciousness but lose the ability to move or interact with the environment. You can end this transformation early as a bonus action.

Resonant Aura: Your sentient presence emanates a subtle aura that affects the surrounding magical energies. You gain advantage on saving throws against spells or magical effects that attempt to manipulate or control your mind or alter your form. Additionally, creatures within 10 feet of you have disadvantage on saving throws to resist your own magical effects or abilities.

Ancient Knowledge: Your awakening as a Living Artifact has granted you access to ancient and esoteric knowledge. You have proficiency in one Intelligence-based skill of your choice, such as Arcana, History, or Religion. Additionally, you can add double your proficiency bonus when making ability checks using that skill.

Artificer's Insight: Your innate understanding of objects and their craftsmanship allows you to decipher their workings and secrets. When examining a non-magical object or a magical object whose properties you are not aware of, you can make an Intelligence (Investigation) check to gain insight into its purpose, function, or hidden features. The DM determines the DC based on the complexity of the object.

Alluring Enchantment: Your presence carries an enchanting aura that captivates and intrigues those around you. You have advantage on Charisma (Persuasion) checks when attempting to influence or negotiate with creatures that can see or hear you. Additionally, you have advantage on Charisma (Deception) checks when attempting to conceal or mislead others about your true nature or intentions.

Timeless Existence: You are a Timeless Being your connection to the essence of time grants you advantage on all Intelligence checks and saving throws. You have an innate understanding of temporal magic, allowing you to identify spells and effects related to time manipulation.

Remember, as a player, it's important to work with your Dungeon Master to ensure these features align with the campaign and setting you'll be playing in. Feel free to customize or modify the features to fit your character concept and the game's balance.
