You are an established merchant from Avaria, a land freed from the constraints of feudal orders by means of a socio-economic system based on free trade, competitive markets, and open immigration. You earn your living through the buying and selling of raw materials typical to the crafts of various artisans maybe after taking up your family's business or starting one of your own, and are well versed in your trade as well as others who share the same passion. Perhaps you were originally trained by a family member, mentor, or close friend. In any regard, you have developed a knack for travel, trade, and interacting with those within your circles.
- Skill Proficiencies: Insight, Persuasion
- Tool Proficiencies: Either Cartographer's or Navigator's Tools & one other type of artisan's tools (typically associated with your trade focus)
- Languages: Common & two of your choice
- Equipment: A set of artisan’s tools (one of your choice), a letter from home, a set of traveler’s clothes, a mule, a magic cart, and a pouch containing 15 gp
As an established trader of all manner of goods you are especially confident not only in dealing with other merchants and artisans, but also in dealing with their goods as well. Due to your experiences within the mercantile world, you have developed an affinity for interacting efficiently with your fellow merchants and by careful realizations and reactions to their subtle social ques. Additionally, you can often tell a particular item's worth, whether it is magical in nature, and all even if your not familiar with the item itself.
A number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus per Long Rest you may perform one of the following:
(A) You double your proficiency bonus for any Wisdom (Insight) or Charisma (Persuasion) check involving another merchant or dealer.
-or-
(B) You instantly deduce the value of one item that you have been able to inspect for a least one minute.
You also own a mule, whom you've known most your life, and a magic cart that can shrink (along with any of it's contents) to pocket-size as a bonus action. When in this state the contents bind with the cart and cannot be jostled or otherwise separated from it by magical means or otherwise. In any other regard, the cart functions as a normal one would.
Suggested Characteristics
Though they come with a shared passion for economics, Avarians come from a cultural melting pot of all the common half-blood races. As such, they can come from any number of cultural upbringing, though this usually culminates in a love or respect for economic ventures and the national union created by free trade.
