You serve a cult. The nature of your relationship with the other members of your cult, as well as the patron you serve, can be discussed with your DM.
If you are adventuring, it has to be for good reason. If your cult is known to be secretive, does the rest of your party know of your status? Are you serving your cult as you're adventuring or are you running away? What are the nature of your duties and how obligated are you to follow through with them?
Your cult, and you by association, draw fearful looks when mentioned. You can use this to your advantage if you're trying to use intimidation or persuasion tactics to get your way. On the other hand, it can get you into trouble with the authorities. Depending on the area you are passing through and the relationship your cult has with the people living there, this reputation can either be extremely helpful or a great hindrance.
You also have access to a vast network via your other cult members. Depending on your rank and status within the cult, the usefulness and efficiency of this access can vary.
