Dragon's Disciple Image

You have spent your life in the service of a dragon. Most likely, your dragon patron is a metallic dragon, as metallic dragons tend toward good or neutral alignments. You may be a wizard serving a dragon in exchange for arcane knowledge, a dragonborn aiding the dragon who begot your family line, or a researcher hoping to gain some untold knowledge from your proximity to the great and enigmatic creature.

You may also choose to be in service of a chromatic dragon. Many such disciples are members of a dragon cult, either by choice or as a form of indentured servitude. Kobolds are especially likely to have this background.

Work with your DM to choose or create a dragon whose service you are in. Pay attention to the typical demeanors and habitats of different kinds of dragon when making your selection. What caused you to strike out on your adventure? Are you on a quest for your dragon patron? Did you escape your service to an evil chromatic dragon, and now you're on the run from his followers? Perhaps your dragon was killed, and now you seek to avenge her death.

Dragon Patron

Prior to becoming an adventurer, you spent your life in the lair of a dragon. The kind of dragon you served shaped who you are, and your perception of dragons. Dragons are also extremely picky about their habitats, so the climate in which you have spent most of your life is determined by the kind of dragon you lived in service of. Roll on the Dragon Patron table to see what kind of dragon you served, and the environment in which it lives, or choose one from the table.

Feature: Grace of Dragons

Dragons are feared and respected throughout Faerûn, and those with ties to dragons often experience the same fear and respect. You can show your dragon symbol, and common folk will obey your commands unless they have good reason not to, for fear of retribution by your dragon patron. Beware that there are those who revile dragons, and they might not react with the same acquiescence.

You are also well-versed in the ways of dragons. You can easily identify the signs of a dragon's lair if you are within 6 miles of it, and identify the kind of dragon that lives there.

Suggested Characteristics

Those who spend significant time with dragons are invariably shaped by them. These are the suggested characteristics for a Dragon's Disciple.

d8 Personality Trait
1 I always seek a higher authority when an important decision needs to be made.
2 My mannerisms and speech patterns are unusual and off-putting to those unfamiliar with the ways of dragons.
3 I am used to being treated as a servant, and will obey orders without a second thought.
4 I'm insatiably curious, and will do absolutely anything for knowledge.
5 After a life of grim simplicity, I am pleasantly overwhelmed by the comforts of urban living.
6 I live by a set of rules that are foreign and unfamiliar to those I travel with, and I resent having to explain my actions.
7 I grew up surrounded by the wealth of a dragon's hoard, and don't understand the value others place on gold and material possessions.
8 I am accustomed to living in discomfort, and rarely complain about my circumstances, no matter how bleak.
d6 Ideal
1 Free Thinking. Dogma is a cage, without which the possibilities are limitless. (Chaotic)
2 Faith. I trust that my dragon patron will provide protection in exchange for my service. (Lawful)
3 Greater Good. Those with skill and power are honor-bound to protect others. (Good)
4 Live and Let Live. The wisdom of dragons suggests that there is no point in meddling in the lives of short-lived races. (Neutral)
5 Adventure. The world outside my dragon's lair is vast and full of possibility, which I intend to seize! (Chaotic)
6 Power. Common people are infants compared to dragons, and require wise leadership, which I seek to provide. (Lawful)
d6 Bond
1 I have sworn revenge on the person or people who killed my dragon patron.
2 My dragon patron sent me on a mission, and I will succeed at any cost.
3 When I escaped from my dragon's lair, I left loved ones behind. I must go back to rescue them.
4 A wise and powerful wizard once entreated my dragon patron for aid. I wish to see how they used the power they gained.
5 My dragon patron is keeping a terrible secret; one I fear will have grave consequences. I must protect the world from it.
6 After the abuse I suffered in the dragon's service, it is my mission to free anyone bound to service against their will.
d6 Flaw
1 I think of all non-dragons as children, unlearned and in need of guidance.
2 I have a strong bias toward (or against) creatures associated with dragons.
3 I don't value my life or those of my traveling companions, for our lives are merely sparks compared to the raging bonfire of a dragon's.
4 I am enigmatic for the sake of it, often withholding information for no other reason than to appear mysterious.
5 I have a weakness for the comforts of the city, and am wont to overindulge in food, drink, and entertainment.
6 I have no desire to learn or partake in the inferior customs of short-lived races.
