Skill Proficiencies: Growing up in the world of fights of all walks and backgrounds, you've learnt rather quickly to read into your opponent and size them up before a combat, after which if you could, you'd avoid throwing the first punch, rather Intimidate your adversary to make the first rookie mistake.
Tool Proficiencies: Without a cleric or a healer nearby, you had to learn how to patch up your own wounds yourself, so you learnt very quickly to rely on yourself to stitch an injury.
