You are a member of a talent company that has discovered your potential and has given you a chance to grow and develop into something great. From a rough stone they transform you into a shining gem. The company trains and develops various artists like you, whom they have seen potential in, and manages the career they have built for them. They have crafted strategic plans to guide and develop your career, and helped identify and provide opportunities that aligns with your strengths, goals and aspirations. 

You have gone through years of rigorous and intensive training in various skills related to your specialization. You have also participated in competitions, shows, exhibits, presentations, and performances to showcase your talents and gain exposure. You have sacrificed a lot for your dream, such as your privacy, your social life, and your personal identity. You have also faced many challenges and hardships, such as strict rules, harsh criticism, and fierce rivalry. However, you have also achieved fame and fortune as a Talent of the Arts. You have a loyal fan base that supports you and admires you. You have a successful career that brings you joy and satisfaction. You have a creative outlet that allows you to express yourself and connect with others. You have also discovered many opportunities and adventures as a Talent of the Arts. You have travelled to different places and met different people. You have learned new things and experienced different cultures. You have also made friends, connection and allies with other Professional Artists as well as influential people.


Talent companies are usually powerful organizations that scouts, trains, and promotes their artists. They are backed up by powerful and influential patrons and sponsors, in return they get first and exclusive access to the products, items, arts, creations, designs, performances or even the artists themselves. Some companies remain local to the city or area they've established themselves in, but bigger companies would have various locations, especially on bigger cities and acts as safe haven and lodging for their artists. Smaller and less known companies exist as well.

As a member of a talent company, you are bound to them by contract. Each contract is different depending on the company, there are even rumors' of talent companies using blood contracts and other much more nefarious means for their artists. Once a set contract expires the company will decide to offer a renewal or let you go. You have the choice to renew and gain access to the guild's privileges once again or decide to leave. In some cases, they don't even provide an artist a choice and ties them into a contract until they decided to let them go. Talent companies gets a percentage of the earnings of their artists. It can be as low as 10% or as high as 90%. There are even talent companies who traps their artists into a slave contract and get 100% of the earnings. 

Talents of the Arts are not limited to Entertainers and Performers, although they would be the usual talents you would find in these companies. Illustrators, Painters, Sculptors, Even Blacksmiths and Alchemists and so on are also talents. As long as they consider the creation as an art, is a trainable skill, and there is a product to be be promoted, sold and earned from the companies would take them under.

Note: This background is pretty flexible, you can shape it for your character anyway you want or however your DM allows. It just needs to have the basic foundation which is your character being scouted, trained and bound in contract with a company, have a specific specialization in the arts such as music, theatre, painter etc. and have a career with it, and gain a level of fame or infamy. While the background fits more for the Bard class, your character Race and Class doesn't need to be affected. You can be a halfling cleric who also has a painting career on the side, or an elven fighter who is a best selling author. Whichever makes sense for you, your DM and your character. 

 
Skill Proficiencies: Choose two skills from any of the following: Acrobatics, Arcana, Athletics, DeceptionInsight, Nature, Perception, Performance, Persuasion
Tool Proficiencies: Choose one tool from either Artisan’s Tools or Musical Instrument.
Languages: Choose one language you learned from company training, and Choose one language you learned from travelling. Choose only from the Standard Languages.
Equipment: A Musical Instrument or an Artisan's Tool, set of common clothes and a cloak with your company emblem embroidered on the side, A company token with the company's emblem engraved on it, vial of ink and an ink pen, a small notebook, a fan letter, A book related to your specialization, and a pouch containing 15 gp.
 
Feature: Company Affiliation

Your association with a Talent Company, grants you unique benefits and resources. You have access to the company's network, facilities, and support, allowing you to navigate in the world with the help of these connection with ease.

Company Resources: As an artist from a talent company, you have access to the company's extensive resources. Once per long rest, you can request assistance from the company to provide you with various items or services, such as magical reagents, transportation, or temporary access to certain places that their influence reach. The specifics of what you can request are subject to the Dungeon Master's approval.

Reputation and Connections: Your association with a company grants you a certain level of prestige and recognition. You gain advantage on Charisma (Performance) checks made when interacting with individuals, specially those who hold knowledge or appreciation for the arts. This reputation precedes you, making it easier to secure invitations to high-profile events, prestigious venues, and exclusive gatherings. As you travel through the realm, fellow artists and admirers will eagerly seek to see you, creating a sense of anticipation and excitement wherever you go.

Guidance: The accomplished artists within your company provide guidance and wisdom to their rising stars. You have access to mentors and advisors who can assist you in honing your skills and abilities. Once per long rest, you can seek counsel from one of the company's seasoned members, gaining advantage on an ability check, saving throw, or attack roll.

Guild Support: Depending on what type of company and relationship you have with them based on your personal character background, the company stands as a united guild, supporting its members in times of need. Should you face adversity, the company will rally to your aid. You can call upon the collective assistance of your fellow  artists. Once per long rest, you can gain advantage on a saving throw against an ongoing harmful effect or call for help from company members to aid you in a specific task. You can work with your DM on the specifics.

Safe Haven: As a member, you have access to your company's building, depending on the company you create for your character's background. There can be more than one branch of safe haven which can be helpful if you're adventuring or travelling away from your city. A place of magical learning and creativity, the company building serves as your home base, providing a secure and inspiring environment for the arts. You can interact with other artists, pick up on gossips and news, request a gig, or rest.

Note: Depending on how you set-up your company for your character background, some of this benefits would be either limited or even nonexistent. For example, if you chose to give your character a background with a smaller, unknown company, Resources and Connections would be limited. If you chose that your character is in conflict with the company or someone in the company, then guidance or guild support will also be limited. If your company is small, and local to a specific town or city then you won't have access to a safe haven on a different place. Make sure to discuss with your DM how you would want to approach this.


 Benefits and resources are not the only things you get with your association with a Talent Company. Depending on how you set-up your company and background you can use this to further expand your character's background or even mix it in your campaign.

Tainted Reputation: As an artist from a company whichever actions they perform will reflect on their artists and vice versa. If the company is found out to be involved in questionable practices and dealings. Your affiliation with them may prove ruining. You face increased scrutiny, and your reputation becomes tarnished by association.

Sinister Requests: The company, the sponsors or patrons might ask you to do certain things that you are not comfortable with or go with what you believe in. While refusing such requests is perilous, fulfilling them may force you into morally ambiguous situations or can weigh heavily on your conscience.

Shadowed Obligations: The price of being shaped into a star and the fame weighs heavily on you, now it's time to pay it forward. Should you fail to uphold your commitment dire consequences await. You may be subjected to blackmail or dark magic, leaving you with no choice but to comply with the company's desires.

Rivals and Betrayal: Within companies, rivalries run deep, and betrayals could be common. As you progress, you find yourself entangled in a web of intrigue, unsure who you can trust among your fellow artists. The competition for favor and recognition may lead to treacherous schemes that put your safety and well-being at risk.

Loss of Artistic Freedom: What you want, and what the company wants might be standing at opposing sides. The demands of the company may curtail your creative freedom. Your art may be constrained by the company's control, agenda or specifics, leaving you with limited opportunities to express your true artistic vision and enchant your fans, patrons or audience as you desire.

 
Suggested Characteristics

Professional Artists has undergone training with their company before debuting to the public. Some trained for a few months to a year, and others trained for multiple years. They are a part of a system that requires them to constantly improve themselves, they are shaped through their experience while undergoing this rigorous training. Through this system they also formed bonds or rivalries with fellow trainees. Their studies, specialization, art and reaction to fame affect their attitude, mannerisms, personality and ideals.
