Florigin Story

"Perhaps you were just a visitor lost or trapped in this forsaken land, or perhaps you have the misfortune of calling this place your home". Choose or randomly determine the tragic event the befell you to land you in the swamps of Florida.

d6 Florigin Story
1 I was a successful business man, who'd heard the Swamps of Florida were a good place to spend my twilight years. I'd heard wrong.
2 I was at sea when a monster attacked our ship. When I came to, I'd washed ashore in Florida. Better I'd drowned.
3 I was exiled to Florida for a crime I didn't commit, but now I'm as guilty as any.
4 I was born in Florida. My mom's an eldritch horror and my pa is an alligator.
5 I travelled to Florida in a search of rumored treasure. My only reward, madness.
6 I had a wild night in my hometown, and I woke up naked in a pool Florida on an inflatable raft.

Feature: Variable Living

The only place Florida Man fits in is Florida, but you've learned to adapt. When you are in a civilized settlement, you can find a place to hide, rest, or recuperate on the streets on in a crowded tavern. Passersby dare not approach, and guards are also reluctant to approach. You can get away with minor criminal offenses, such as refusing to pay for food at a tavern or breaking down doors at a local shop, since most people will not report your activity to the authorities.

Suggested Characteristics

The magic forces that twisted your mind and soul are as unknowable as they are mischievous. There's no telling what effect that might have on a person.

Contacts

When you say "I know a guy", those who know you know that nothing good can come of it, and yet it proves true time and time again. Despite having no ties to a criminal network, you never seem to have a problem finding someone to acquire illegal substances or other black market items.

Variant Florida Man: Delinquent Prodigy

You don't mean to cause problems, they just seem to crop up around you. You've found the best way to deal with them is to drown it out. When you go missing, your friends know which benches in which city squares are your favorite to sleep on. If you're not there, they also know where to bring your bail money. A normal person's body couldn't endure this, but for you it's just Tuesday. Despite all of the obstacles in your life, things seem to have a way of working out.

Variant Feature: Hold My Beer

You don't have proficiency in that skill, you just think you do. As a bonus action, Florida Man is able to consume one dose of alcohol or other illegal substance. Roll a d20. On a roll of a 1 or a 2, you fall unconscious for an hour and wake up with 1 level of exhaustion. On any other roll, you're able to grant yourself proficiency on 1 ability check for the next 10 minutes.

This ability can't be used again until you've failed an ability check. You have a number of uses equal to your proficiency bonus, resetting after a long rest.
