Few have seen the look that haunts your eyes, and fewer still can share in the pain; be you the last of a noble line lost to some devious plot, a natural survivor who pulled themselves out of disaster or blessed by some unknown cursed luck. But through it all you survived, and that survival has taken its toll on you. Loneliness and isolation, scars and worse, these were your friends for a time; and they will be there always as a reminder to what you were, who you are, and what you will become.
- Skill Proficiencies: Survival has made you strong, and through survival you have lived. There was a time in your life when there was little else to you except your own will and drive to overcome, push through, and survive. You gain the proficiency with the Survival skill.
But who were you? The eldest child of a noble house? A diligent farmer tending her fields? The tireless scribe echoing away in the monasteries, eating your way through tome after tome. These are all paths the lone survivor could come from, as such you get one additional Skill Proficiency in a skill of your choice.
- Equipment: Something that kept you grounded, throughout that time when you were alone where did you focus that deeply ingrained desire for communication, for connection, for unity. Choose a simple, mundane item as your focus. This item should be something that you would not want to live without, for when you had no one and nothing, it was your solace. A memory of the time before, a badge of the times that came, it is something crucial to you.
It is a hard life in the world these days. The darkness extends from more than just shadows, and the common folk have many struggles and terrors that interrupt the sweet moments of peace. Surviving what you went through, it changes a person, and sometimes the memories of that time surface against your will, and you wear that sorrow on your face. A look that the common folk of the world know too well.
If you are talking to a commoner who is friendly or neutral towards you they will be inclined to help provide you with shelter and basic necessities for a day and night as long as you pose no obvious danger to them and their family.
Additionally this comes with a strong sense of empathy. You understand more than almost any other creature what it means to really experience isolation and loss. And, you know the power of hope and new connections that can heal the darkest wounds. Once per long rest you can make an Insight roll with advantage to understand what an ally is feeling, or on a persuasion roll where you are expressing your true and honest feelings to someone or something in order to try and foster a genuine connection between the two of you.
