Monster Hunter (Belsparta) Image

You have spent many years as a monster hunting guide. You have been on many monster hunting expeditions, some of which you almost didn't come back from. Having seen it all, there is almost nothing you do not know when it comes to hunting monsters. People tend to have different reactions to seeing a monster hunter, ranging from awe and respect to fear and advoidance, but you are used to that. However, something incredible/terrible has happened and now it is time to leave the monster hunter life behind.

Skill Proficiencies:  Choose two from among Athletics, Investigation, Nature, and Survival.
Tool Proficiencies: Choose either Navigator's Tools or Cartographer's Tools
Languages:  Choose one exotic language (Abyssal, Celestial, Deep Speech, Draconic, Infernal, Primordial, Sylvan, or Undercommon)
Equipment: A monster hunter's pack, a set of common clothes, a bag of 10 gold coins, your monster guide book & badge, and one trinket of special significance (choose one or roll on the Gothic Trinkets table after this background).

Foul Tales

Before becoming an adventurer, life as a monster hunter guide granted you it's fair share of horrific tales and experiences. Some may stick in your mind and haunt you, others you tell to locals around a flagon of ale, and occasionally there's nothing better than a recolection of slaughtering a beast to terify that drunkard stealing coppers.

d8 Foul Tales
1 You once killed a werewolf midfeast to descover it had an ecclectic taste for tieflings.
2 "After ripping the harpy's wings from her back she wasn't all that threatening I said to myself. And well, that's how I got these scars."
3 "Zombies and chickens don't mix."
4 You once saw the petrified bodies of baby twins broken on the floor of a cockatrice's lair.
5 You saw a man eaten alive by a vile swarm of rot grubs.
6 You once decapitated a chitine. Its head rolled along the ground then burst open like an egg sack as a thousand spiders scurried out.
7 Some idiot thought that buying platemail would protect him against a family of rust monsters. You later found his corpse.
8 God damn hags.

Feature: Monsterous Experiences

With your experience and your guide book, you have a deep understanding of certain monsters. This involves both how to fight them and how to correctly salvage them, very helpful for a party in a pinch.

Choose two monster types. Any monster of these types (who's CR is less than your character level x 1.5) can be quickly identified, along with their strengths, weaknesses, and how to correctly salvage them; provided you are holding your guide book in your hands. If you do not have your guide book in hand, you must instead succeed on a Survival or Nature check to receive this benefit. (The DC is up to the DM, the rarer the monster the higher the DC)

Additionally, upon successfully fighting, killing, and flawlessly salvaging any monster; you may record the monster in your Guide book. With any monster recored in this way, you have advantage when rolling for salvage.
