When you were young, you lived a peaceful life in a village by the sea. Everyone knew each other and worked together to form a working community of peace. One day though, due to the ravages of conflict between nations, clans, or bandits, your childhood was turned to ash. 
Your village was caught in the crossfire of conflict, everyone was forced to either leave on ships, or be killed or sold into slavery. Not everyone could go onto the ships, so about half the village was forced to remain behind, including you. The village was burned to the ground, and the remaining villagers were killed or sold. You and an only a few others escaped, but separated. Now you wander aimlessly, across an unfamiliar land.
