You either come from a family of ship builders, have an interest in engineering, or grew up in a harbor village and had to take up the only available profession that kept you at home. Though you are knowledgeable about ships you have little to no actual travel or sailing experience at all. You are well respected by adventurers and even pirates, but although they consider you a helpful person to buy from, they have no idea you have so much more to offer. Your know how and familiarity with the construction and repair of ships could be life saving in a desperate situation, and though you hail from humble ports, you could end up being a hero that saves hundreds of lives from sinking below the depths.

Skill Proficiencies: Perception, History
Tool Proficiencies: One type of artisan’s tools, vehicles (water or air depending on campaign)
Languages: Begin with common and one other language depending on your port.
Equipment: A set of artisan’s tools (one of your choice), a rope, a book with common ship blueprints, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 10 gp

Call to Adventure

Why give up a stable and well respected job for a life of danger? You saw many eager adventurers set out on their maiden voyages and come back with untold riches and incredible tales, but more often than not, you saw many eager adventurers set out on your ships to never return. You must disregard these odds however, unable to simply sit back and watch others live exciting lives.

d10 Call to Adventure
1 I met another adventurer when I was very young who encouraged me to seek more out of life.
2 After a night of heavy drinking I woke up on a strange ship, press ganged into service of a cruel captain.
3 After a company takeover I found myself suddenly out of a job, and debt collectors at my door.
4 My hometown was attacked by pirates and my entire business went down in flames.
5 A supernatural disaster destroyed my hometown and scattered my family and community, I only managed to escape with a single ship.
6 My family recognized my innate magical ability, and after years of saving they were able to afford to send me to a mentor.
7 I fell in love with a sailor, and uprooted myself to follow them across the sea.
8 I was hired by some mysterious government officials to build advanced warships, and then threatened with death if I ever spoke about it.
9 Annoyed by the lackluster treatment these pirates give my precious ships, I vowed to show them what these ships can really do- if properly maintained of course.
10 My ancestor was famous for a ship he built, but the legendary vessel has long been lost at sea, and subsequently faded into myth. I seek to find it.

Feature: Shipwright's Guild

You belong to a community or a company of allied workers. Either being a small family owned business with high expectations of their progeny, a back alley gang of mechanics who make dangerous vehicles intended for a criminal clientele, or a labor union forged to protect each other from a ruthless corporation. In any case you are accepted into a tight knit community of like minded workers who not only admire each other's skill, but support each other. You can recognize the work of other tradesmen and can identify the origins and ages of ships you encounter, receive discounts when purchasing ships or upgrades, and more easily gather information while in dockyards or port towns.
