After being infected with a Mind Flayer tadpole you slowly began turning into an Ilithid. Due to some bizarre phenomenon, the tadpole died partially through the transformation leaving your mind mostly intact. You are left in a peculiar situation, not quite like the race of people you used to associate with and yet you do not fit in with full Mind Flayers due to your mind. You have not decided what this new life means to you.
- Skill Proficiencies: Choose two from among Arcana, Deception, Insight, Perception, or Persuasion. You also learn Telepathy.
- Languages: Choose one from Deep Speech or Undercommon.
- Equipment: A breastplate, a set of dark robes, a set of common clothes, and 10 gp.
Although your transformation was left unfinished, you were forever changed after your infection. Choose a description of how you were changed or roll one on the Depth of Ceremorphosis table.
| d6 | Depth of Ceremorphosis |
|---|---|
| 1 | You look almost entirely normal except for your misty eyes and mildly moist skin. |
| 2 | You look mostly like your original race except a little off. Your skin is incredibly pale, your eyes glow slightly in dim light, and instead of sweat you leak a thin sticky slime. |
| 3 | Small protrusions around your mouth give the strange illusion of a moustache of flesh. In addition, you have glowing eyes, pale skin, and excrete mucous from your pores. |
| 4 | Your skin is a pale lavender color, your eyes glow, short tentacles dangle from your face, and you excrete a thin sticky mucous. |
| 5 | Your skin is violet in color, the top of your head slightly protrudes into an elliptical shape, your eyes glow, long tentacles dangle from your face, and you excrete a thin sticky mucous. |
| 6 | You are nearly indistinguishable from a fully ceremorphosized humanoid with moist purple skin, an oblong head shape, glowing eyes, long facial tentacles, and no hair. |
Due to your transformation, your association with others is changed. You may be rejected from the place you once called home or may have exiled yourself voluntarily in shame of what you have become. The Mind Flayer colony responsible for your infection may also not welcome you because of your rejection of the Elder Brain or failure to exhibit the prowess or demeanor of a proper Ilithid.
Suggested Characteristics
You likely are a Gnome due to your innate "magical misfitism" that caused the ceremorphosis to go wrong. You may be a Monk or Rogue due to being an outcast, or a Wizard because of your newfound psionic intelligence-based powers.
