Those that are dead stay dead, unless aided by an ancient post-mortem spell which reincarnates you.
You are one of those people, lifted from death by an exceptionally powerful mage, and therefore you now relish your newfound abilities. Though you are now in debt of your benefactor and usually work, trade, and gather solely with them, you are in possession of spells, incantations, and inhuman strength. Your skin might appear gaunt, grey or bluish, your sockets hollow, your fingers bony and wizened, but you deal in strong spells and utilize them often. Because you know that this took extreme effort, money, time, and skill, because this was such a difficult task, and because you realize that this mage rose you for a good reason, you daren't hinder their progress, speak back or against them, confront them nor fight them. You may be entirely submissive and accept the mage as your true master, or you may have a more equal relationship in which you also are considered having great worth and opinion.
Because you are dead you have seen past the worst, and because you have seen this it may bring out the worst in you, or you rarely speak about your time in the afterlife, or rarely speak at all. However, you might not remember most details about death.
In life you were most likely this mage's accomplice, aide, butler or servant, advisor, or counterpart. You were skilled in music, magic, or fighting and now your skills in those categories have increased.
- Skill Proficiencies: Intimidation, Performance
- Languages: You can speak, read, and write Common, the Language of Death, and one extra language.
- Equipment: Four used candles (from your summoning ritual), tinderbox, two vials, one perfume vial, and a pouch containing 10 GP.
As you have returned from the dead and beyond, the souls of the dead and their keepers give you the right of way. When passing through graveyards, you have an extra +5 added to your walking speed. When sneaking through graveyards or past religious sites, temples, churches, or other structures, your Stealth skill is increased by +1. When fighting the undead or fighting in a graveyard, your STR modifier is increased by +1.
Suggested Characteristics
The necromanced are forever changed by their troubling, frightening, or curious experience mingling with the dead. They have seen suffering and have most likely suffered themselves; this often affects their choices, thoughts, and ideals. Usually they may take pity on the wounded, dying, or suffering, sometimes too much pity, as they have known this pain. Other times they feel that others should pay off their debt by feeling the pain that they have felt, and therefore they strive to make them suffer, feeling that this punishment is "equal". However, since they are governed by a master, they most likely kneel before their word before taking actions into their own hands. They can be loyal and an everlasting companion trying to pay off their enormous debt, or they might be soft and gentle creatures who would rather help than harm.
