You were born during a mighty storm or, perhaps, during a religious ceremony dedicated to such a storm, and were raised to believe that this was an omen guiding your life. As an adult, you worship the storm as an entity unto itself and see yourself as an avatar of nature's wrath, tempestuousness, or just unpredictability. You might channel this as a fierce warrior, pitting the storm's fury against tyrants, or as a divine messenger, rewarding the faithful and punishing the wicked.
You may have been a lesser functionary in a temple dedicated to nature or the tempest, raised from childhood to assist the priests in the sacred rites? Or you might have been a priest who suddenly experienced a call to serve your god in a different way? Perhaps you were a shaman, or a cult leader, or merely a wandering hermit, raising your voice in praise to the storm wherever you went. You might worship a specific storm god, but it's just as likely that you worship the storm, itself, and, while you give respect and reverence to the many gods of the tempest domain, you understand them all to be merely facets, mortal attempts to understand the storm.
- Skill Proficiencies: Insight, Performance
- Languages: Two of your choice
- Equipment: A holy symbol, a prayer book or prayer wheel, 5 sticks of incense, vestments, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 15 gp.
You are known in your home region as an avatar of the storm, and are recognized as a religious figure by those who worship within the tempest domain. You and your adventuring companions can expect to receive free healing and care at a temple, shrine, or other established presence of your faith, though you must provide any material components needed for spells, and you may have to endure lectures and/or debates from priests who may or may not approve of your particular form of worship. Those who share your religion will support you (but only you) at a modest lifestyle.
You might also have ties to a specific temple or shrine dedicated to the storm or to a specific tempest deity, and you have a residence there. This could be the temple where you used to serve, if you remain on good terms with it, or a shrine where you have a regular presence. While near your temple, you can call upon the priests for assistance, provided the assistance you ask for is not hazardous and you remain in good standing with your temple.
Suggested Characteristics
The Stormborn are often of a chaotic nature, though they can be of any alignment, as they tend to embody the ever-shifting nature of the tempest. They often have less structured religious learning than other religious figures, but they make up for this in sheer faith and in their powerful personalities. A common form of tempest worship in this form is singing, drumming, or other type of performance dedicated to the storm, or sometimes meant to call down the storm when its blessing is desired.
