Your duty is your life and vice-versa. However, your life is but a tool that can be sacrificed at a moment's notice for the sake of your duty. Constantly on guard and constantly on edge, you are always prepared for anything. You are a staunch protector, and your mission is to ensure that those you serve are safe, as are the locations and valuables they control.
When you choose this background, work with your Dungeon Master to determine the various details surrounding your time as an Elite Guard. How did you end up in this position? Were you given this rank because of someone else's influence or did you achieve it through hard work and great deeds? How is the rank viewed in your country? Is it an actual rank that requires a lot of work to reach or is it more ceremonial? Are you from a noble family yourself or maybe you're a former commoner or perhaps you were raised for the position? What was your relationship with the forces you served? Did you develop a strong, trusting friendship with them or were they abusive and obnoxious to deal with? Did you see a lot of action and were constantly engaged in harsh training that pushed your skills further or was it mostly standing around outside of doors and riding horses during parades that actually dulled your abilities?
- Skill Proficiencies: You are proficient in Insight and Perception.
- Languages: You are proficient in two languages of your choice.
- Equipment: A set of fine clothes and a pouch containing 15 gp.
Feature: Privilaged Secrets
You may or may not necessarily be part of the nobility, but as a protector you still spent time being part of that world. Thus, you may have some knowledge about many things that would otherwise be unknown to the common man. As long as you feel that you are not bound by code to keep this information secret, you may inform people about things you have been privy to. Keep in mind that if you do reveal this type of information to the wrong person, you may be considered a traitor.
