Draconic Cultist Image

You where raised as part of one of the draconic cults of the material plane. You have seen dragons before, and are no stranger to them and their ancient lore. Most cultists come from the desperate folk who have lost it all and are willing to thrown themselves down at the feet of dragons to seek their ancient and mysterious powers. Other cultists were scholars or priests who discovered the deep truths of the First World, the real nature of the gods who claim to have created the it, and turned to the worship of the original beings who made the multiverse and were cast down by the Invader Gods; Dragons.

Whether praying to dragons for personal power and their own motivations, or serving as mouth pieces for the flesh and scale legends that mortal dragon's are, or offering power and completing rituals to right the fundamental nature of the universe, restoring dragons to their rightful place as creators and custodians, even if it means the destruction of the current worlds, draconic cultists possess a wealth of knowledge on dragonsight, the myriad seedling realities of the material plane, and dragons themselves, as well as an often rather traumatic childhood.

Feature: Cultist of Dragons

As someone who has spent a hefty portion of your life working with and for chromatic dragons, you needed to learn how to get on their good side or die prematurely. As such, all dragons you encounter will by default be indifferent to you, unless you give them a good reason not to be (such as stealing from them or insulting them), and they will try to negotiate with you if given the chance.

Your previous fellow cult members may also still be on good terms with you, allowing you to potentially seek refuge or information from them, albeit in favor of something the cult wants to further its own ends. Most cults keep secret hideouts or ceremonial meeting places which you most likely know the location of, and the cult of the dragon will certainly be able to provide a lot of information on dragons, the First World, and god-wyrms, as its name suggests.

Suggested Characteristics

The cult of the dragon is a brutal place, and it is likely you saw first-hand, maybe even participated, in the sacrifice of victims to the knives of ritual and the fangs of dragons. That is not something one can just walk away from and forget about. While some cultists show visible signs of madness, the cult of the dragon is not, in general, the kind of cult that encourages the truly insane. Many members of the cult try to cover up and turn a blind eye to the more grizzly parts of the cult, rather spending their time desperately attempting to awaken dragonsight in their mortal body.

All of these things can have a great impact on the life and personality of a cultist or former-cultist. Think about how they affected you, and why you have turned to adventuring and left the security of the cult of the dragon. Did you flee, after learning what the cult truly did to the farmers it takes into the dragon's lair? Did you manage to awaken your dragonsight just enough to catch a glimpse of your echo in danger in another world, and then set out to find a way to save this person who is so strangely connected to you? Or did your dragonsight show you what could be if the First World was reborn, and you then set out to take an active roll in fulfilling this vision? Or Perhaps you are still in serves to the dragon your cult worshiped, maybe as a Warlock or Sorcerer who channels their magic directly from this ancient being.

Contacts

Unless you were outcasted by the cult, they are still a major contact which you have strong ties to.

Their are many different sects to the draconic cults, non of them exactly alike. Typically, a larger sect is often in direct contact with a dragon, with multiple safe houses and shelters throughout the closest settlement, and at least one sacred place, such as a circle of standing stones or an alter, in the wilderness close to the dragon's lair. Because of your close interactions with the cult, you are likely to know the location and nature of most of these places. You are also likely to have made close friends, or at least acquaintances, from your childhood in the close knit community of the cult. While these friends may not risk their life or station for you, they can provide you knowledge on the cult and whatever dragons it worships. If you held a respected position before you left the cult, you may even be able get information from the high priest or similar figure of your cult, who can, for a price, share detailed and likely correct information not just of draconic activities in the region, but also on their activities throughout the country, and even on the cosmic actions of dragons and draconic gods in the observable outer planes, if they so choose.
