Executioner Image

After the judge, after the jury, there is only you... the person behind the hood. You don't make decisions or judgements about the people at your feet, you just carry out your duty. As an executioner you are tasked with the grim job of punishing those convicted of crimes. Perhaps you have a moral opinion in the matter of your charges, perhaps not. Does it really matter?

Skill Proficiencies: Medicine, Intimidation
Tool Proficiencies: Poisoner's kit
Equipment: A poisoner's kit, ink, an ink pen, a journal of names, a book of last rites, a censer on a chain, 5 sticks of incense, a trinket linked with your preferred method of execution, a set of common clothes with a hood and leather smock, a pouch with 10gp

Preferred Method

Over the course of your career you have decided upon and perfect a specific method of execution. You can roll on the following table to determine your style during your time as a headsman, or choose one that best fits your character.

d7 Preferred Method
1 Poison
2 Hanging
3 Beheading
4 Firing Squad
5 Stoning
6 Burning
7 Electrocuting

Feature: Symbol of Doom

Your deadly reputation precedes you. Neither peasant nor criminal enjoys being in your way, and both will more readily reveal information to lessen the perceived threat of losing their head. Nobles and those of higher standing might still feel above you, but those who work for them feel differently. Should you manage to come across those servants in the absence of their masters, they might be willing to part with valuable information in exchange for never seeing you again. It is up to the GM to determine how much this pull within society benefits you at any given moment.

Suggested Characteristics

Most executioners simply fill a necessary role in society while others seek out the work for more sinister or taboo reasons, but either way an executioner brings with them a certain, inescapable aura. Your motives and pursuits will determine how society reacts to you over time.

d8 Personality Trait
1 I’m driven by the need to protect the innocent.
