Suggested Characteristics

Writers lean heavily on the trappings of a good story. Many good writers love to consume stories as much as creating them. A writer values how the written word can impact individuals and invoke emotions.

d8 Personality Trait
1 I use polysyllabic words that convey the impression of great erudition.
2 I’ve read every book in the world’s greatest libraries—or I like to boast that I have.
3 There’s nothing I like more than a good story.
4 I’m willing to listen to every side of an argument before I make my own judgment.
5 If I have an audience I will tell a tale!
6 I am horribly, horribly awkward in social situations.
7 I’m convinced that people are always trying to steal my intellectual property.
8 People bore me... give me a good book any day.
d6 Ideal
1 Empathy. Few creatures are born evil. Most are shaped by their past, and we should be slow to judge until we know the story. (Neutral)
2 Beauty. What is beautiful points us beyond itself toward what is true. (Good)
3 Truth. The truth should ring free no matter the consequences. (Lawful)
4 No Limits. Politics, celebrities, clergy, no one is above critique. (Chaotic)
5 Deception. Words have a way of invoking emotion, obscuring truth, and challenging what we hold dear. (Evil)
6 Self-Improvement. The goal of a life of study is the betterment of oneself. (Any)
d6 Bond
1 I have been contracted to write for an individual and I must make good on my word.
2 I seek adventure to find the inspiration to finish my current book. This will be my masterpiece.
3 I work to preserve a library, university, scriptorium, or monastery.
4 My life’s work is a series of tomes related to a specific folk hero.
5 I’ve been searching my whole life for the answer to a certain question.
6 My best story yet was stolen before I could publish it. I will bring the thief to justice, and ensure I am recognized for my work.
d6 Flaw
1 I am easily distracted by the promise of information.
2 I spend a great deal of time editing myself, trying to find the best words to use.
3 Embellishing comes naturally to me. If a tall tale is good then a ginormous one is better!
4 I constantly stop what I am doing to write down information or thoughts for my latest work.
5 I tend to start narrating the current events out loud. The worst part is I usually don't notice it till someone tells me stop.
6 I can’t keep a secret to save my life, or anyone else’s.
