Fae Librarian Image

You are a patron, scholar or employee of one of the secluded Fae libraries within the Feywilds. Perhaps you grew tired of the tired old tomes within the Material Plane and sought mystical knowledge that simply wouldn't have existed in your land. You may have been apprenticed to a mentor who travelled to the Feywilds in search of this knowledge, or you may have an agreement with an Archfey who has allows you passage within their stores of knowledge and fables. You may have also been spirited away by malevolent Fae seeking research subjects, new apprentices, or simply a new pair of hands to clean up after their staff. From there, you could have risen up the hierarchy, or you may have desired to nourish your mind of the books available to you, sneaking knowledge away under your watchful master's nose.

As a result of this, your primary motivation is likely to be to maintain, retrieve, or add to the wealth of knowledge that is contained within this library. Words and secrets hold a special power to the Fey, after all, and are closely guarded and maintained. Perhaps you are looking to rise up the ranks and prove yourself, or you may be looking to find a particular aspect of lore that would free you from your fey lord or lady's service. Maybe you are simply gathering some names from unwitting people who are too eager to share their identity...

Curious Curios

An animated, spellbound object has decided to follow you on your adventures, keen to explore beyond the restrictive dusty halls of its home. It may be able to float, or can move around physically, or may desire to be carried by your character. You may decide to allow it to come with you on your errands.

The item's enchantment is rudimentary. It can communicate by transmitting basic emotion, and has hearing and normal vision to 30ft. It will not willingly leave more than 10ft from you, and if it is forcibly taken outside of this radius, will try to return. It may possess an alignment if you wish. Your item acts independently of you, but it always obeys your commands. In combat, it rolls its own initiative and acts on its own turn.

If actively used in combat, the object acts independently of you and will not seek a fight. It will otherwise attempt to hide within your character's belongings.

It possesses the following traits:

Feature: Scholarly Familiarity

Your mannerisms and knowledge of fey customs are recognized by natives of the Feywild, who see you as one of their own. Because of this, friendly Fey creatures are inclined to come to your aid if you are lost or need help in the Feywild.

You also have a good foundation of knowledge when it comes to tales of the Feywild, the monsters that may roam the land, or the whimsical magic that the Feywilds contain.

Additionally, you are likely to gain preferential treatment at other libraries across the Realms, as professional courtesy shown to a fellow scholar.

Suggested Characteristics

Use the tables for the sage background as the basis for your traits and motivations, modifying the entries when appropriate to suit your identity.

Your bond will be related in some way to the mystical oak shelves you walk among, the whimsical texts and tales you lose yourself in, or maintaining the buildings full of ancient knowledge to be preserved for all time. Perhaps you are motivated by knowledge and the desire to add more tomes to your collection, or perhaps you seek power that the Feywild cannot help you with.
