Village Idiot Image

You are not particularly intelligent and believe in strange gods that "came to you" in your hour of need. No one else has heard of these gods, but people do not openly mock you because you excel in combat and just might be insane. You come from a humble background doing hard labor, and look like you may have taken a hard blow to the head, so most folk tend to take pity on you, while those of higher station and aspiration might see you as either an opportunity or hinderance.

Skill Proficiencies: Athletics or Acrobatics, and StealthNature, Animal HandlingSurvival, or Perception
Tool Proficiencies: One type of artisan’s tools.
Equipment: A set of artisan’s tools (one of your choice), a shovel, an iron pot, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 10 gp

Defining Event

You previously did hard labor, most likely as a miner or farmer, and took a blow to the head in a terrible accident, leaving you a little slow (or insane). You have either seen or believe in strange gods that no one else has heard of, and may occasionally speak to someone or something that others cannot see.

d10 Defining Event
1 I stood up to a tyrant’s agents.
2 I saved people during a natural disaster.
3 I stood alone against a terrible monster.
4 I stole from a corrupt merchant to help the poor.
5 I led a militia to fight off an invading army.
6 I broke into a tyrant’s castle and stole weapons to arm the people.
7 I trained the peasantry to use farm implements as weapons against a tyrant’s soldiers.
8 A lord rescinded an unpopular decree after I led a symbolic act of protest against it.
9 A celestial, fey, or similar creature gave me a blessing or revealed my secret origin.
10 Recruited into a lord’s army, I rose to leadership and was commended for my heroism.

Feature: Idiot Savant

You are generally decent and helpful towards those who you think are decent to you, so you are well regarded (and perhaps a bit pitied) by common folk. You have trouble reading and writing, but have a surprising amount of natural skill in a few areas. Common folk recognize you as one of their own, so they will shield you from the law or anyone else searching for you, though they will not risk their lives for you.

Suggested Characteristics
