Your knowledge of magic is rooted in the folklore, secrets, and recipes of brewing potions and crafting spells using material components. Your recipes have been passed down to you through oral traditions from wise women and elders in your community, as well as the covens who may have trained you. The materials of nature, the anatomy of monsters, and tokens from others you use as spell components are things you intuitively understand. Some may fear the power you possess in your abilities to perform material magic on them unawares. You may even have a reputation that proceeds you, regardless of whether it's deserved. Whether you provide your services for a fee, assist others in their times of need out of the goodness of your heart, or use your craft only to serve your own purposes, there are witches in the world who fit every description. The way you use the wisdom you've gained, for good or for ill, is up to you.

Each of the specialties for witches is described below:
Witch of the Hearth: These witches value home and comfort, using their potions and foraged materials to imbue their spaces with magic. Mentorship, healing, and being the found family/Mom friend to those with nowhere else to go is what they do. Witches of the Hearth are the most social of witches and will not hesitate to rescue those in need. And somehow, those who are in need always seem to find them.
Witch of the Wild: These witches have a deep understanding of the natural world and the creatures that inhabit it. They respect the ecosystems from which they take their spell components. They have a great love for plants and animals, for habitats that are in balance, and showing respect for all living things. They specialize in plants, herbs, fungi, and all things that grow in soil. Animal handling and the ethical use of animal parts in their magic matters deeply to them. To find a witch of the wild talking to her plants, a menagerie of animals in tow, is not unusual.
Witch of the Hedge: These witches delight in exploring the boundaries between life and death, light and darkness, and all the planes of existence. They maintain these borders and keep balance and harmony on all the edges of existence, from the neighbors down the road to the borders of the astral plane. These witches are natural readers of every room, able to suss out and resolve conflicts wherever they exist.
Witch of the Elements: These witches harness the elements of earth, air, fire, and/or water to restore the flow of energy throughout the universe. While many have elements they favor, usually related to their own personalities and natures, true masters of the elements seek to restore harmony between the elements by understanding each of them. These witches tend to be the ones who seek out elemental magic to enhance their fighting prowess and martial capabilities.
Witch of the Cosmos: These witches map and trace the pathways of stars, moons, and planets across the cosmos. As master astronomers who can read the past, present, and future from constellations, these witches are excellent at divination magic. Because so much of their work happens at night, they often forget to sleep and end up taking naps throughout the day. As such, races who trance instead of sleeping thrive most naturally in their mastery of this kind of magic. These witches can use and track existing zodiac signs (Western or Eastern) or the DM can create an in-world zodiac for these witches to use.
Witch of the Ancestors: These witches perform rituals and make offerings to the honored dead of their families and communities. The ancestors who become disconnected from their descendants and the living who struggle with the passing of their loved ones seek out these witches specifically. At times, these witches can feel like family therapists and mediators, but they also end up knowing everyone's business because of it. These witches love sharing gossip while pouring the tea.
Witch of Ceremonies: These witches serve in temples, shrines, and perform ceremonial functions in their communities. They tend to be the most monastic, living in orders with communities and covens where they observe the festivals and high holidays of pagan rites. While there are no particular gods or sets of beliefs these witches all have in common, they take a vested interest in preserving and restoring religious rites that have been suppressed or forgotten because of colonization and forced assimilation. They sometimes find themselves at odds with institutional powers and governments, which suits them just fine.
Witch of the Spirits: These witches serve as mediums, communicating to the living the wills, wishes, guidance, and criticisms from the dead. They also assist wandering spirits with their unfinished business so they can cross over into their next plane of existence. These witches learn history, lore, legends, and myths by virtue of having endless conversations with those who were there. They end up correcting the historical record with the information they gather from spirits. Their magic rests on memory and assisting others in changing how they are remembered by those who comes after them.
