You were a member of a tribal society with strict traditional beliefs until you were expelled for committing a taboo. Whether you were framed, either for political or personal reasons, committed your crime for the good of others, made a grave mistake, or carried out the action malevolently, your exile has become your defining mark. Your road has been a hard one since that day, marked with loneliness, struggle, and distrust. You find your way with little to no help, often unnoticed on the periphery of the civilized world.
- Skill Proficiencies: Survival, Stealth
- Tool Proficiencies: One musical instrument, and one artisan tool
- Equipment: An artisan tool, a cook-pot, a hunting trap, a tribal heirloom, a set of traveler’s clothes, and a pouch containing 10 gp
Tribal Heirloom
Before your expulsion you claimed an heirloom of your tribe. You may have stolen it in secret, taken it defiance as you departed, or you may have been given it by a family member or a tribal elder. You may consider it a divine symbol, a reminder of your animosity towards your tribe, or fond reminder of your loved ones. If the heirloom holds enough reverence you may hold it in your hand to use it as a spell-casting focus.

Feature: Freestanding
Even in crowds you always appear to be on your own. If one or more of your companions become unwelcome or engaged in hostilities, as long as you do not attempt to aid them, you will be considered a bystander. You will be allowed to remain in the area and engage the local group without rebuke related to your companions actions. This applies to any situation where you would otherwise be welcome if you arrived alone, whether it's a royal court that you'd have an invitation to, a trade caravan that allows travelers to come and go as they please, a vendor's shop, or a seedy criminal establishment where you could be seeking employment or services.
Suggested Characteristics
The exile has learned to become invisible to the civilized world. Either through shame, hatred, or the embrace of solitude, they cast off their need for inclusion. They tend to live in the uninhabited wilds, or on the outskirts of civilizations. They rarely express happiness, and if they're not angry or spiteful, they usually appear stoic and detached. Even if an exile is employed in a large city, they are usually cloaked, quiet, and separated from the day to day, only carrying out their duties for survival. Some exiles are driven to earn redemption or aim to be adopted by other societies, while the majority embrace their exile and just want to live out their days by their own code. They are skilled in talents related to survival.
