Spy

For the past few years you have been in the service of the army of your homeland as a spy. Riding on horseback from town to city, forest to field, you have learned to keep a low profile while being able to get valuable information on enemy strengths, weaknesses, and disposition. At the same time you have been the link between your leaders and operatives working behind enemy lines. 

Your DM can help guide you through the process of finding what army in their world you would have been associated with. They can also guide you through the determination of what special life circumstances made you suited for this job in the first place. Why do you seem trustworthy enough for such sensitive work? Did you ever see combat?

Of course this background would be ideal for anyone rolling up a ranger or rogue.

Spies have a unique position in any military - operating as lone agents, working with officers more than with the enlisted, and having to rely on brains over brawn, persuasion over brute force in order to see a mission through.
