You are a professional... nothing more, nothing less. You don't typically travel from town to town to save the common masses from monstrosities out of the good of your heart. That's a job for paladins and knights. From a lowly goblin infestation to a wyvern attack, you have prepared for any situation and deal with it accordingly.
- Skill Proficiencies: Your training makes you far more adept at tracking monsters, understanding monsters, and magic of all sorts. Choose two of the following skills to gain proficiency: Arcana, Investigation, Insight, Perception, Survival.
- Tool Proficiencies: Preparing for a hunt is essential if you wish to survive. Most fools would blindly charge into a manticore fight without knowing their nesting habits, or coating their blade in poison for an extra edge... Gain proficiency in the use of the poisoners kit.
- Languages: Language is important, but typically a hunter only picks up their native language or the language if they plan on hunting for a particular race.
- Equipment: What is a hunter without his equipment? Well, actually, quite a bit; however! A hunter's equipment has them prepared to deal with any abnormal situation from zombies to hags. They receive the following: a silvered martial weapon of their choice, monster hunter kit, poisoners kit, a hunter's medallion that reflects their school, and a pouch filled with 10 gold pieces.
Your training and background give you priority of any local monster slaying contract. On top of this, most villagers or contractors are more inclined to haggle for the payment of a job well done due to the higher certainty of you performing compared to a random adventurer.
Suggested Characteristics
Typically this background is meant for blood hunters, but many other classes could fit this background such as rangers and fighters. Most hunters are alone in their travels but are willing to take on help or join a party if it means extra help in taking down extremely daunting beasts.
