Your privileged upbringing couldn't have prepared you for that as if anything could have. You can't go back to the life you had before. You can't relate to that any longer so you decide on a life of adventure. At least long enough to get your head right again if that's possible.
You were left with the ability to fight and to lead. The ability to command and persuade men to fight for you - possibly to die for you. You have your life and you have your horse. Now it is time to find out what more awaits you.

You have a military rank from your career as a soldier. Soldiers loyal to your former military organization still recognize your authority and influence, and they defer to you if they are of a lower rank. You can invoke your rank to exert influence over other soldiers and requisition simple equipment or horses for temporary use. You can also usually gain access to friendly military encampments and fortresses where your rank is recognized.
