You started your journey with dreams of mastering the arcane arts, enrolling in one of the prestigious magical colleges that promised to teach you the secrets of the universe. But somewhere along the way, things didn’t turn out as planned. Maybe the rigorous academic demands were too much, perhaps the arcane ethics didn’t sit right with you, or possibly a personal reason pulled you away. Now, you find yourself equipped with a bit of magical knowledge but far from the adept wizard you aimed to be.
- Skill Proficiencies: Arcana, Investigation
- Tool Proficiencies: One type of artisan’s tools of your choice.
- Languages: One of your choice.
- Equipment: A backpack, 4 textbooks (150 GP at purchase, resellable at 8 cp apeice), a quill, ink, an unfinished spell book with many mistakes, a set of clothes with your college logo all over them, and a pouch containing 5gp.
Feature: Fragmented Knowledge
You might have left college early, but you didn’t leave empty-handed. You have a wide array of half-learned theories and unfinished spells. Once per long rest, you can attempt to cast a cantrip or a 1st-level spell you don’t know or don't have prepared. To do this, you must succeed on an Intelligence check (DC 15). On a success, the spell is cast. On a failure, the spell fails and you can’t use this feature again until you finish a long rest.
Suggested Characteristics
Your time at the arcane college has left its mark. You might have an insatiable curiosity that drives you, or perhaps you're marked by a sense of failure or frustration. Your reasons for leaving could also deeply influence your personality and goals.
