High Chronicler Image

(stats taken for Cloistered Scholar) During your first Wood Elf psychedelic trance ceremony at the stark young age of sixty (elf years = human years / 10) the rest of your peers entered a euphoric battle-trance as intended. You instead saw a vision of the goddess Lacra and were gifted with an arcane fragment of knowledge allowing you to speak, read, and write Celestial. Since the death of the thirteenth High Chronicler had a new awakening been hautilly anticipated. Ever since the day you were deemed the fourteenth High Chronicler youve spent your nights sequestered in the library towers of the wood elven bastion-keep where you deciphered the Divination magics enscribed in Celestial tome stored there. Rangers and warriors alike die daily in skirmishes throughout the forest, but only when goblin horns screech a true siege is the High Chronicler pushed from the tower libraries to lead the forces of Elfdom to a divine victory. Friends and rivals who once foraged the woods along side you now train axe, bow, and tactic under you for the sake of their life and land. Living vicariously through books and knowing neither the touch of another nor the life a normal adult, ink in the only place you find comfort and belonging. The weight of leadership is lessened only but the diligent work of the King. As the divine ruler, Hallucis makes the final call on all matters, but thankfully the King whispers into his sharp ears about all matter outside of the magus and the martial. By the burgeoning adolescent age of 140 your studies have chiseled into you a piecemeal understanding of the extraplanar arithmetic that holds this world together. Months into self-training with only a meager collection of arcane arts personally tutorialized into a living-paper book, there is a frantic jiggling at the door handle. "but a moment!" The jiggling gives way quickly to heavy blows against the door, its assailant grunting with the effort. "Lord of Hells, have you lost yourself in trance?!" The door slams open and bounces off of the wall behind it knocking books from the shelves. "High Chronicler! The forest is lost!"

"You- Oh Divine- you-"

"We've no time, we need help - any help - Its to be like the tale of the wanderer king, my divinity, leave now and Ill batter the hatch behind you!"

"Wander king? I shall set forth for glory then?! Get ahold of yourself, man!"

"We need an army, m'liege, the gap for but a single soul to break the siege is closing fast. Take what is valuable and go now in search of allies, we've rations here for but weeks I suppose."

"Oh Divine, Oh Divine!"

"Go, Sir!"

"But.. the army? How fairs the army?! Why didn't I hear the war horns?"

"As they have ambushed us, now I must ambush you." The lower chronicle swings a pack from his shoulder and sweeps into it a load of scribes equipment from the nearest table.

"Where am I to go, who is left to help?"

The lower chronicler stuffs the bag into Hallucis' arms and guides him forcefully to a nearby porthole.

"Youre going the leave the forest, you're not going to stop running till you're out, and you're not going to come back till you've got an army to put the daemon back where they belong- If you can't save us then avenge us, sir. Go now and look not back."

The lower chronicler punctuates himself with a hearty pat or a light push. "Tis the wishes of the King, sir."

Hallucis climbs from the port hole and clings to the tower's bark in decent. Looking up he sees only the arms of the lower chronicler closing the port cover behind him. That is the last time Hallucis looks back.

Though others must often endure extensive interviews and significant fees to gain access to even the most common archives in your library, you have free and easy access to the majority of the library, though it might also have repositories of lore that are too valuable, magical, or secret to permit anyone immediate access.

You have a working knowledge of your cloister's personnel and bureaucracy, and you know how to navigate those connections with some ease.

Additionally, you are likely to gain preferential treatment at other libraries across the Realms, as professional courtesy shown to a fellow scholar.
