Drake Image

Drakes have long been just guards or creatures to fight for their masters. But one day, you awoke. Maybe you were born this way. Maybe you became awakened by some means in your life. You became sentient through some form. You’re still a quadruped, but now you can stand in your hind legs, hold things, think for yourself, choose not to fight.

The world has gifted you powers differing from almost all others of your kind. It’s your choice what to do with them.

Skill Proficiencies: Being a Drake, you are quite strong, and you have proficiency in three skills you choose.
Tool Proficiencies: Because of your talons, which are not made to handle humanoid tools, you have proficiency in only one.
Languages: You can speak Draconic, and optionally one other.
Equipment: You started with only a bit after you awoke, but hopefully you will acquire more as you go to serve your whims and wants.

Draken Instincts

Some awakened beasts retain a few feral instincts. You can optionally choose 1 or more from the table.

d6 Draken Instincts
1 You attack anything that moves when you are on alert.
2 You have an urge to guard any possession you collect.
3 You make extremely strong bonds.
4 You obey most orders from anyone you trust.
5 You have a hard time forgetting old friends or making new ones.
6 You prefer to hang around areas you’ve been before and hate going new places.

Feature: Drake Fear

As a drake, you can scare people very easily. You can use this once per short rest to strike fear into any enemy, causing them to surrender, or use it to add a 1d4 to any Intimidation role. 2d4 [4th].

Suggested Characteristics

When creating an Awakened Drake, you can use the following table of traits, ideals, bonds and flaws to help flesh out your character.

d6 Personality Trait
1 I enjoy pretending to be a normal drake to scare people.
2 I often show large aggression towards newcomers.
3 I prefer to stand on my hind legs and act like a humanoid.
4 I have one hobby I enjoy greatly.
5 I insist people treat me like a humanoid.
6 I use my gifts to earn money.
d5 Ideal
1 Freedom. I’m a wild spirit who wants to to be tied to nobody and have nothing holding me back from my true potential. (Chaotic)
2 Power. I’m convinced my gifts set me apart from the rest and make me better. I just want power in my talons. (Evil)
3 Charity. I want to use my powers to help people. (Good)
4 Life. I just want to live normally. (Neutral)
5 Social life. I want to live as a law abiding citizen in a big city! (Lawful)

Variant Drake: Gaurd Drake

You had a master before you awakened, and it slightly breaks your heart to leave. But you know that you two can call on each other at anytime.

Variant Feature: Call For Help

When you select this variant, choose a species of former master. (Dragonborn, Kolbold, or Cultist.) Once per long rest, you can call on them to help in a fight for three turns. Likewise, if you encounter them in a fight and your DM has player versus player on, they can call on you to fight on their side for at least 3 turns.
