You were young. You had barely gotten your start in the world, but things were going well enough. The last thing you remember was getting caught in that storm and ducking into that cave, halfway up the mountain. The cave opened into a tunnel - it was small and didn't seem to be in use, but big enough to explore a little bit. No harm in seeing where it goes, you thought. You thought wrong!! The tunnel took a downturn - probably washed out from the snow melt in the spring. Just a few steps further in, and you felt it - a strange surge of energy - you fell backward, slid further down the tunnel, then... nothing. Nothing.
Just as quickly as it started, it ended. You woke up, climbed out of the tunnel (soaking wet) and went down the mountain. Only, when you got to the bottom of the mountain, everything was different. Most of the forest was gone and your little town was now huge. It was 10 times the size it used to be, but mostly empty and run-down. Long story short, you found your way to the market square, tried to get your bearings, and learned the horrible truth. You had been frozen in time for 600 years, to the day.
What was it? A trap? A curse? A trick by some cruel god? Maybe it was just a freak accident - a random discharge of magical energy - and you walked right into it. It doesn't matter now. Your family, and everyone you knew are long gone. You were probably presumed dead 599 years ago.
You have nothing to your name but what you carried out of that cave.
However, the magic that took your old life away from you did give you a little something in return. It seems as though that tunnel filled up with water from the snowmelt every spring, probably submerging you for weeks on end. The magic that froze you also kept you alive, like a living stone at the bottom of a pond. Now, somehow, you can go days without eating or sleeping and you can hold your breath for a long time. It turns out that not breathing, eating or sleeping for 600 years can do wonders for the constitution.
You've also noticed that when you're around magic users, you can just... tell. Sure, most of those people make it pretty obvious. But you can even sense the magic when there's no one around, sometimes. Maybe you absorbed some of the magic that kept you in that cave, and now you have a 6th sense for it.

Being older than even some elves, you remember things about your time that all but a few have forgotten. Sometimes you hear scholars or historians comment on life and events in those days, and you tell them they have it all wrong! You have advantage on History checks if the time in question is when you were frozen or earlier.
