You are not a soldier, but you are (or were) in the process of becoming one. You are a trainee, a cadet, the new blood being taught by the old blood how to fight and survive on the battlefield. You have not yet tasted the glory nor the horrors of war, but you have become well acquainted with the grunt work and menial labour often delegated to recruits such as yourself.
Work with your DM to determine what kind of military organization you joined and why. Perhaps you are following in the steps of a family member or guardian, or perhaps you were pressed into service as a rebellious youth. Are you continuing your training, or are you determined to abandon it? What position or rank are you looking to achieve should you continue on this path?

You have a military rank from your career as a soldier. Soldiers loyal to your former military organization still recognize your authority and influence, and they defer to you if they are of a lower rank. You can invoke your rank to exert influence over other soldiers and requisition simple equipment or horses for temporary use. You can also usually gain access to friendly military encampments and fortresses where your rank is recognized.
Suggested Characteristics
Most recruits may not have yet experienced to horrors of war, but they do become familiar with the rigid discipline, sense of camaraderie, and the expected deference to one's superiors that comes with military training.
