Crofter/Forager Image

You were born into a close-knit family or clan, surrounded by nature and far away from the modern comforts of urban living.

You might live on a farm, in a woodland or near to an elaborate cave system and have learned to care for and live off the land around you. Your life in the countryside has honed your skills of cultivating food and foraging for things like mushrooms, berries, materials and hidden treasures.

Unlike many others, you gain knowledge from first-hand experiences rather than lectures or academic texts. You know the cycles of the seasons and the land intimately and, while you're perhaps not formally educated, you are able to make a good living selling produce, furs, gemstones and/or hand-crafted items.

When you are not ploughing land or harvesting, you and your family often spend time exploring caves, ruins, mine systems or other subterranean areas. You know how to locate rich mineral veins as well as how to safely and ethically mine them. This could be ore for smelting such as iron or copper or it could be rarer crystals and gemstones to be used for jewellery making.

While your people do enjoy community living and are welcoming to respectful strangers, they also revere the solitude of the deep earth and you feel just as at home underground as you do on the surface.

Skill Proficiencies:
  • Nature is in your blood. Even in places where you don’t know the specific features of the terrain, you know the ways of the wild and have an innate skill for foraging food, water and resources as well as navigating natural areas.
  • This grants you proficiency in Nature and Survival.
Tool Proficiencies:
  • Most of your furniture and possessions you have made or built yourself, using your [tool]Tinker's Tools[/tool]
  • Medicines and potions can be expensive and so you have learned to make basic versions of your own using what is available to you in the wild and you [tool]Herbalism Kit[/tool]

Languages:
  • Due to lack of travel and social interactions, you haven't learned any new languages

Equipment: A staff, an animal hide [Tooltip Not Found] filled with clear spring water, a trinket that you hold dear, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 10 gp

d8 Specialisation
1 Forester
2 Trapper
3 Homesteader
4 Hunter-gatherer
5 Miner
6 Livestock Keeper
7 Herbalist

Feature: Resourceful Forager

Foragers are always on the hunt and often notice minute details in the world around them. This keen eye and sense of resourcefulness help you in a surprising variety of situations. Whether you're traversing a dense forest, wandering through a bustling city, or delving into ancient ruins, you possess an innate talent for finding useful non-magical resources.

You might find plants for healing or harm, special woods or metals for particular crafts, or perhaps long lost trinkets and treasures. If it exists in an area that a forager can get to then they may have a use for it and so collect it!

You are also able to scrounge or forage food and fresh water for yourself and up to five other people each day.
