Travelling Carnival Performer Image

The smell of incense. The sound of laughter. The feel of a rough canvas tent under your hands. As a performer for a travelling carnival, these are the memories that characterize your history.

Some are born into the carnival, growing up in the tents and raised by your carnival family as much as the parents who birthed you. Some joined as wayward children—orphaned or unwanted, wandering alone until you were taken in. Others still joined even later, not recognizing their calling until well into adulthood. However you arrived, the result is the sa: your background is in the carnival, in tents and on the road.

As a performer, you have proficiency with performance and a field of your choice; as well as a greater knowledge of the world and increased proficiency with languages.

Feature: Well-Travelled

Whether a stagehand or performer, your adventures with the carnival took you all over the land. While you may not have been in every town, you've been in every region of the continent and are familiar with the customs of most places you travel to. Additionally, you'll be able to find someone who recognizes you in most major towns—whether an old friend, a fan of the troupe, or an old enemy.

Suggested Characteristics

Carnival folk are a motley crew drawing from every corner of the world. This makes them hard to generalize; however, a common theme is a distrust of authority (having seen the way it is abused) and a deep love for those they consider family.

d6 Personality Trait
1 I do not trust authority, having seen it abused far too many times.
2 My life as a traveler has filled me with wanderlust, and I hate being in one place for too long.
3 I always plan everything out, and try to constantly be one step ahead of everyone else.
4 I have a remarkably calm demeanor, even in the most tense of situations.
5 I'm a terrible flirt, and can't help but hit on every cute person I meet.
6 Despite feeling comfortable in front of a crowd, I feel awkward in one-on-one situations.
d6 Ideal
1 Freedom. I hate being tied down, and want to always be able to come and go as I please. (Neutral)
2 Entertainment. I wish to entertain the world, believing that it is the best service I can offer to others. (Good)
3 Family. I'm loyal to my (blood or found) family above all else. (Any)
4 Wealth. I desire intense wealth above all else; and as my career path doesn't particularly provide that, I'm willing to stoop to whatever necessary to obtain it. (Evil)
5 Earned Respect. My respect has to be earned through actions; titles mean nothing to me. (Neutral)
6 Charity. Although I have little to myself, I am always willing to share what I have with others. (Good)
d6 Bond
1 As much as I travel, I'll always feel a particular calling to my original home.
2 There is a younger person in the carnival whom I've taken under my wing and consider a surrogate child or younger sibling.
3 I only feel at home when I'm travelling with the carnival.
4 I was separated from my birth family years ago, and hope to find them again.
5 I once fell in love with a beautiful member of the upperclass; they loved me back, but declined a relationship as their family disapproved of our union due to my status.
6 I feel a deep and genuine connection to all people, and wish to bring love and light into the lives of all I encounter.
d6 Flaw
1 My distrust of those outside of my inner circle leads me to drive away potential allies.
2 I fly into a terrible rage upon seeing greed, which can cause me to act irrationally.
3 I have an explosive temper and act horribly brashly the second somebody insults me or mine.
4 I am stubborn to a fault and refuse to change my opinions even when presented with definite proof.
5 I have trouble sticking to a plan and insist on improvising.
6 There is someone in my past who I hurt very badly, and this doesn't bother me.
