You experienced an event--or series of events--that caused you to completely question your identity. Do you want to be you? What does being “you” even mean?!
In your struggle to figure out who you want to be, you drastically altered your appearance in some way. You now tend to favor an androgynous, versatile style that gives away very little about your gender, class, and backstory.
- Skill Proficiencies: Choose two from among Insight, Survival, Deception, and Persuasion.
- Tool Proficiencies: You have two tool proficiencies--one from before your identity crisis, and one from after.
- Languages: This background provides no additional languages.
- Equipment:
- A set of common clothes
- Two toolkits--one you grew up with, and one you acquired after your crisis
- A trinket that reminds you of who you were before your crisis
Others can’t quite tell what gender you are, but they find you physically attractive anyways. This can be very emotionally confusing for them. You roll with advantage when flirting with characters who may reasonably be flirted with.
Characters from your past who haven’t seen you since before your crisis will not immediately recognize you unless you deliberately reveal yourself to them. They may recognize you if you engage in any interaction that goes beyond a passing comment or direction (Deception check, or DM’s discretion).
Suggested Characteristics
You're still in the process of figuring yourself out. No matter how you identify, you likely will not correct other characters if they mislabel you. You enjoy taking on whichever role or label they place upon your shoulders--it's almost like becoming a whole new person for a little while! If they later realize their mistake, you find entertainment value in their confusion and surprise.
