Thank you! Considering how important background is to character creation in 2024, locking those ability bonuses to background is a real fail.
Just like Halfling barbarians were handicapped in 2014, Noble clerics are handicapped. (And it's not like there are no historical examples of noble-born priests/monks)
Ah, silly me. I had originally posted asking about the Ability Score increases mentioned above because I couldn't find them, but they're under the Abilities tab in the character creator, not the Background tab. Fantastic job and thank you soooooo much!
Can you explain how you allowed the ability score increase? I've been getting a lot better with homebrewing features, but couldn't figure this out today, I would like to make copies of each of the 2024 source new backgrounds, but give them 3 or so origin feat options to select from, I figured that out. But when I made a copy of each background, the copies by default had the ability score increase selection removed, and for the life of me, I can't figure where I can specify which skills get the +1, +2, or all three get the +1. Can anyone help>

I noticed the same thing. I couldn't find any place to specify the ability scores.
I've at least figured out that it does give an ability score increase of +1/+2 or three +1s, but it moves that to Ability section of the character builder and does not let you specify the 3 skills, it lists them all as options. So far I haven't figured out a way to change this behavior and either specify the ability skills or move it back to the background section.

To be honest, I didn't do anything. There didn't seem to be a way to do this manually, so I just built it without that... and it still gave the option. Hopefully this isn't a bug that'll later get "fixed" ... or if they do, that they'll also give you a way to do it manually.
It definitely gives it to you automatically if you pick a current PHB species, which is a plus. This unfortunately causes an issue where if a Homebrew species doesn't have an ASI feature, the option doesn't show up, or, if you have ASI on a homebrew species, it will show up in addition to the background ASI the PHB backgrounds give you. It's a bit of a mess and I hope it gets cleared up. Just having a button that makes the homebrew background automatically give the starting ASI would make it so easier, and you wouldn't need to add custom ASI for homebrew species anymore. This issue, and the known spells one are ones that I hope get fixed soon.

I created a homebrew background, but I was not able to limit the ability score selection. The character could pick +2/+1 or +1/+1/+1, but the dropdown showed all six attributes.
For those who are confused by the ability increases - the implementation is actually bonkers:
2024 official Species have a hidden feature for ability increase - it won't show in Species tab, but in the Abilities tab instead. (Check this by creating a character with official Species but without any background and go to Abilities tab)
If you choose an officialBackground ( which itself has ability increase option), the ability increase option that Species provides will be hidden completely - no longer an option to choose in Abilities Tab (that way you won't increase abilities two times)
If you choose a homebrewBackground (which can't be set to increase abilities), you can still see the Ability increase option (Species feature) in Abilities tab. This way official Species will work with homebrew backgrounds.
Official Backgrounds are made in a way a homebrew background can't be - there is no way to add ability increase in homebrew backgrounds. So the Species takes care of that. But if you want HOMEBREW SPECIES and HOMEBREW BACKGROUND to work, you have to do this:
Create homebrew background including everything (skills profs, tools, equipment..) except ability score increase option - this can't be done in DDB
In your homebrew Species add a feature that increases ability scores
the easiest way to do this is to choose an official species as template (doesn't matter which, I used dwarf)
you will see there is a feature for ability increase already
change other features as you need, but keep this one
HOWEVER beware, that even if you just copied an official Species, it won't behave completely the same
The ability increase feature WILL BE visible in Species tab
it will also be visible in Abilities tab
it WON'T BE hidden, whatever background you choose
even if it's an official background that let's you increases abilities on it's own
in this case of HOMEBREW SPECIES but OFFICIAL BACKGROUND - do not fill in both abilities increase option, because it will increase them twice!!
Thank you.
Exactly what I was looking for (at least until the DMG is published)
Well done and thank you. Strange that D&DOne didn't do this off the bat.
Note that it doesn't specifically say above, but you do also get to choose stat bonuses (+2/+1 or +1/+1/+1)

Best background ever. 10/10

Nice. Just added ability score feat to this and I think it works.

Could you add an "origin feat" option?
