Following an unexpected event the integrity of your soul has been compromised and you now have to live with the consequences. You could for example have been cursed by a hag, a witch or may be under the influence of a demonic presence residing deep within you waiting to break out. Some unlucky ones may even act as a vessel harboring parts of an entity healing or growing its power inside of you and waiting to take over your mortal form, essentially swapping places with your soul which would then be relegated to a minor influence within your body. A cursed soul may suffer from nightmares, insomnia, amnesia, chronically bad luck or experience pain if they take certain actions or think about a specific thing.
Depending on the origin of said curse or presence you may develop new body features, like a hooked nose and scoliosis if cursed by a hag, grow horns and have your skin turn a reddish, devilish hue if a devils blood runs through you. But such influence can also instigate rather positive changes especially if of celestial or fey origin, which can lead to impeccable skin, luscious hair or charming eyes.
Regardless of any side effects, positive or negative, you are still cursed which will have negative implications if you do not try to get rid of the negative influence or stop its expansion for good. Hence you tried your best to acquire knowledge about your condition and similar conditions searching through libraries and questioning scholars, travelling the realm.
