Background

You were not always like this. Once, you were an ordinary person—perhaps a healer, an alchemist’s apprentice, or even a prisoner. But your fate changed when you were subjected to a series of experiments, whether by choice or against your will. These experiments warped your body and mind, granting you strange knowledge and capabilities but also marking you with the scars of your past.

Your body bears the results of these procedures, whether in the form of discolored skin, strange scars, enhanced senses, or even minor mutations like an extra finger or unnaturally sharp vision. These experiments have given you a unique insight into diseases, anatomy, and alchemy, though the memories of what was done to you may haunt your dreams. You can diagnose ailments with ease and concoct potions or antidotes with surprising proficiency.

As a result of these procedures, you have gained an innate understanding of anatomy, disease, and alchemy. The experiments have physically altered you in a specific way. Choose one minor mutation that you possess, such as enhanced vision in darkness, unnaturally flexible joints, resistance to poison or disease, or a strange, almost metallic hue to your skin. This mutation grants you a small boon, like advantage on saving throws against diseases or poisons, or a minor ability like climbing walls or squeezing through tight spaces. However, the mutation is obvious and may cause fear or prejudice from others.
