Local Hero Of Coast And Open Sea Image

Aye, ye hail from humble shores, but the winds whisper of greater deeds. Already, the folk of yer village look to ye as their shield, their guiding star. Yet the sea itself calls ye onward, to face the tyrants and beasts that cast their shadow over all free folk. It is yer fate to rise, not just for yer kin, but for every soul who lives under sky and sail.

Create an event that prompted your rise to heroic status or use the table below to tie your background to events in Saltmarsh. Use this table in place of the Defining Event table

Defining Event

You previously pursued a simple profession among the coastal peasantry, perhaps as a farmer, wahler, servant, sailor, fisher, or shell diver. But something happened that set you on a different path and marked you for greater things. Choose or randomly determine a defining event that marked you as a hero of the people.

d10 Defining Event
1 You snuck aboard a raiding ship and freed a number of captured fishers doomed to slavery in that realm.
2 I saved people during a natural disaster.
3 I stood alone against a terrible monster.
4 I stole from a corrupt merchant to help the poor.
5 A pirate crew crept into town one night to raid the dockside warehouses. You raised the alarm and led the defense.
6 A terrible accident almost caused a fire that would have destroyed the docks, if not for your heroics.
7 I trained the peasantry to use fishing implements as weapons against a pirate raid.
8 A lord rescinded an unpopular decree after I led a symbolic act of protest against it.
9 A celestial, fey, or similar creature gave me a blessing or revealed my secret origin.
10 When kua toa emerged from the deep to raid the coast in the name of their "god", you distracted them long enough for the militia to prepare an ambush that sent them fleeing back to the deep hole where they had crawled out from.

Feature: Rustic Hospitality

Since you come from the ranks of the common folk, you fit in among them with ease. You can find a place to hide, rest, or recuperate among other commoners, unless you have shown yourself to be a danger to them. They will shield you from the law or anyone else searching for you, though they will not risk their lives for you.
