You spent your life working in the mines beneath Mirabar, digging deep into the earth to extract precious metals and gems. Whether part of a family tradition or seeking your own fortune, you learned the skills of mining and survival in the dangerous tunnels that run through the Spine of the World. Under the guidance of seasoned miners and foremen, you developed a keen sense for the rock’s secrets and learned to navigate both natural caves and man-made tunnels. Your work wasn’t just about labor—it was about contributing to the lifeblood of the city. Now, whether by choice or necessity, you’ve left the mines behind, but the skills and instincts you honed underground remain with you.
- Tool Proficiencies: You gain proficiency with mason's tools, essential for shaping stone and working in the deep tunnels of Mirabar's mines.
- Languages: You can speak, read, and write either Gnomish or Dwarvish, the primary languages spoken by the miners and artisans of Mirabar.
You spend 10 minutes summoning a spectral pickaxe from the Ethereal Plane, which materializes in your hand for 1 hour. The pickaxe sheds dim light in a 10-foot radius and brightens as you draw closer to deposits of valuable, unrefined gems. The pickaxe is primarily used for mining but can be wielded as a weapon in combat.
When used as a melee weapon, the pickaxe deals 2d4 Force Damage. Additionally, when striking a gem deposit, you have a chance to critically strike. On a critical hit, the gem deposit produces twice the number of gems, duplicating the mined gem. This feature can only be used once per long rest.
Feature Upgrade. Starting at 5th level, the chance to critically hit a gem deposit increases as you gain experience in mining. The critical hit range decreases by 1 at 5th level, 11th level, and 17th level, allowing you to critically hit on a natural 19, 18, and 17, respectively.
