Suggested Characteristics

Vanguards are highly trained and respected among elves and are always expected to be exemplary in words and actions. They are expected to not only be good, but to excell at their chosen area of expertize, be it combat, magic, diplomacy, subterfuge or trade. Vanguards have spent decades learning different languages and the etiquettes of various races and societies to be able to blend in where ever they go. And while this training allows for them to converse, interact and get along with most people, it is not rare, after decades of intensive training and singleminded focus on the furthering of elven interests and values, to find among their ranks a zeal bordering on zealotry. In addition you have the personal and mental cost of spending extended periods of time working under a fake identity or deep behind enemy lines, which doesn't neccesarily make for the most trusting or relaxed individuals.

Their flaws as a result might be anything from xenophobia, arrogance, paranoia or the like, depending on their role within the organization.

Contacts

The Vanguards are a relatively new faction, but already well known and respected among elves all over Faerun. As a result any Vanguard-member can expect to receive aid and information from elves in most regions. As for the more formalized contacts there are some in every major city and a few in smaller ones as well (at the DMs discretion) that might provide the players and their associates with information and resources. These formal contacts are often the proprietors of the Safe Houses available to Vanguard-members.
