Your life before you began adventuring was mostly spent at home.  You took care of cleaning, cooking, and laundry for your family.  You may have even cared for little ones of your own.  Whatever sent you down the adventuring path, your life has left you with a sturdy, unbothered resolve and immense practical wisdom.

Suggested Characteristics

(Yes, I know it's not in 5e 2024, but I still use these...)

When creating a character with this background, you can use the following table of traits, ideals, bonds and flaws to help flesh out your character.

d8 Personality Trait
1 I'm always early to bed and early to rise.
2 When work needs doing, I do the work.
3 I can find common ground between anyone, even the fiercest enemies, empathizing with them and always working toward peace
4 I keep careful track of my money and supplies and stretch their use to the fullest. I learned the hard way that you must be frugal and wise with your resources.
5 I believe firmly in good manners and proper etiquette. No one is incapable of politeness.
6 I invariably fall into a parental role in my various friend groups, and I spend most of my time trying to keep them from doing anything crazy they’ll regret later.
7 I never throw anything away. You never know when it might come in handy later! Besides, finding creative ways to repurpose things is one of my greatest joys in life, and I brag about my clever ideas to anyone who will listen..
8 I have a real flair for matchmaking. I can find someone for anyone! And my single friends are always at the top of my list...
d6 Ideal
1 Fairness. I think everyone deserves to be treated fairly, and I don’t play favorites. (Lawful)
2 Spontaneity. I crave excitement and variety, so I try to find a way to sprinkle a little spontaneity in even the most mundane days. (Chaotic)
3 Pay it Forward. When I was struggling, my community came to support me, and it meant the world to me. Now I strive to be that person for others. (Good)
4 Fear. If people won’t respect me as I am, I’ll make them fear me. Then I’ll get the recognition I deserve. (Evil)
5 Live and Let Live. Meddling in the affairs of others only causes trouble. (Neutral)
6 Family. Blood runs thicker than water. (Any)
d6 Bond
1 I am out to start a homestead of my own in an unexplored fringe territory.
2 My son was drafted into a war and never returned. I must find him!
3 Any money I gain goes to support my family.
4 I have an extremely ill child, and I am searching desperately for a cure.
5 I will take revenge on those villains who destroyed my home and murdered my family.
6 I sponsor orphans because I can never have children of my own.
d6 Flaw
1 Nitpicking is how I show I care.
2 I need to be able to fix my loved ones' problems. Otherwise I’m a worthless friend.
3 I cannot delegate or relinquish control even if the workload is far too much for me. Being a perfectionist, I know I’m the only one who can accomplish things to my satisfaction.
4 Though I always encourage my friends to confide in me, I tend to keep all my own anxiety, fear, and worries inside until they consume me. It just doesn’t feel right to burden other people with my problems.
5 I live wild and decadent now I’m free of home life. Perhaps a bit too wild…
6 Despite homesteading being my dream, I am actually terrible at the skills required to run a home. But I can’t let them see it, and I refuse to admit it to myself.
