The Kingsguard serves as the royal protectors of Thunderfall’s nobility. Predominantly made up of paladins, this faction welcomes members from all classes who are dedicated to the protection of the realm. Reporting directly to the king, they operate with a unique authority that allows them to act above the law when necessary. Clad in pristine white, they resemble a secret service, poised to defend the kingdom against any threat.

As a proud member of the Kingsguard, you are the embodiment of honor and duty. Your unwavering loyalty to the crown and the realm drives you to stand as a bulwark against chaos. Maybe you were inspired by a family legacy of protectors, or perhaps a defining moment in your past called you to this noble cause. Clad in the emblem of the Kingsguard, you serve not only as a warrior but also as a diplomat and guardian of justice. Your authority allows you to navigate the halls of power with grace, and you strive to inspire others through your actions. In every decision, you balance the weight of your responsibility to the kingdom and its people, knowing that you are the first line of defense in times of turmoil.

Your membership in the Kingsguard allows you to call upon your status and connections to influence events beyond the battlefield. As a member of this elite faction, you gain the following benefits:

  • Authority of the Kingsguard: You can leverage your reputation to gain access to restricted areas or receive favors from nobles and other influential figures. You can add your proficiency bonus to Charisma (Persuasion) checks when interacting with nobles or members of the upper class, reflecting your position as a protector of the realm.
  • Protective Escort: You can designate a creature within your vicinity as your charge. While you are within 30 feet of this creature, you can provide them with guidance and support during social interactions. The designated creature can add your proficiency bonus to their next ability check, reflecting the sense of confidence and security your presence provides.
  • Kingsguard Intimidation: When dealing with hostile creatures or individuals, you can use your standing to intimidate them. As an action, you can make an intimidating statement or display your gear to attempt to coerce them into compliance. Make a Charisma (Intimidation) check contested by the target's Wisdom (Insight) check. On a success, the target becomes frightened of you until the end of your next turn.

You can use these features a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all expended uses after a long rest.
