You were raised by guardians, parents, or otherwise who worked for you, who wanted you, who loved you. No, not everything in your childhood was perfect, nothing is, but they tried the best they could for the sake of your growth, even if the cultural ideas of good may not fit into the ideals of others. Whether poor or rich, you were swaddled with blankets comfortably, fed as much as your guardians could afford, taught the knowledge of your lineage and family --through enrolled schooling or otherwise--, and most importantly, raised as your own person. Despite the remarkable love your parents afforded you, however, age and the outside world will not do the same. Perhaps your comfort at home was stricken by death in your family, or perhaps your good memories were contrasted with darker events that took place later in life, not orchestrated by your guardians or peers, but by brutalistic outsiders. Perhaps a major injury ruined your plans, or a robbery took your family's wealth and home home along with it.

Whatever the case may be, your childhood has taught you love and compassion and the knowledge of hard work, and now you must learn to balance those teachings with the emotional or physical turmoil of later lived tragedy. Pray or hope for the guidance of your guardians, for they have cleared the path for you.

No Longer Home

Everyone has to grow up sometime. What was the defining moment of your life-- the moment that changed everything, put your future on its head? What caused the realization that things must change, and you must change with them? What happened to knock you into the real world, what tragedy befell you?

Optional: roll or pick one below.

d6 No Longer Home
1 My parents, guardians, mentors and/or peers were killed, forcing me to walk through life alone. Will I ever be loved how I was was?
2 I was kidnapped or taken away from my guardians, putting me into a foriegn and perhaps dangerous enviorment. Will I ever see my family again?
3 Despite my family and I's planning for my future, and everything that could go wrong, something unexpected happened, leaving me scared and unsure of what to do. How will I get past this?
4 Mine and my family's belongings and home have been taken from us, and have/will soon cost some of our lives. Will I be able to come back from this?
5 Nothing is wrong, despite what everyone seems to think. What befelled me and/or my family was not such a big deal. Will I ever stop lying to myself?
6 I have found out something horrible about the people who raised and cared for me. I might still love them anyway, but I am concerned and feel awkward, now. How can we handle this?

Feature: 5.5e Ability score improvement.

Ability Scores: Constitution, Wisdom, Intelligence. Pick from the listed ability scores, increasing one by 2 and another one by 1, or increasing all three by 1. You will have to add these in the abilities tab, rather than background tab.

Suggested Characteristics

While it's often suggested the adventurers scaling through Faerûn or the Forgotten Realms as a whole, Greyhawk, Strixhaven, Eberron and every other realm, plane, world or setting are unhappy or disconnected from their parentage or guardians or peers, that isn't always the case. You value your childhood and those who were around you in that time-- even if things have increasingly gotten worse as you aged. So, how have you changed from your childhood, if you are willing to admit it?

Optional: roll or pick below.

d6 Personality Trait
1 Inspired by my own guardians, I tend to become a parental or guardian-like figure to those around me, even if they are a bit older.
2 I can't help but feel sorry for myself and how my life has changed, despite the happy memories I still have. It's not enough, not anymore.
3 I'll be okay no matter what happens next. The worst has already come, and I will always have my allies/peers, guardians or parents by my side-- or at least their memories.
4 No matter what, I will find a way to bring my family and life back to how it was, even if it means reversing time, or bringing back those who should be dead.
5 As much as I wish I could be, I don't think I will ever be the same again. I am scared I won't be able to fit into the world how I used to, or be able to experience joy and love any longer.
6 I don't particularly care about anything anymore, and I seriously doubt any attempt at "love" or "joy" will change that. In fact, anyone who tries to "cheer me up" can face my wrath.
