Mimics live in colonies. If a colony is well fed, they may bring orphans or unwanted children into their colony. Mimics aren't inherently evil or violent, but you too may get grumpy on an empty stomach. As you are a person the mimics kept as a meal meant to be eaten at a later date you pleaded for your live. A deal was struck with the Mimics, in return for your life you were to keep the colony fed. As you became the primary source of food for the colony some of the mimics began to see you as a companion and when food was scarce you were seen as the colony's leader. As leader of the colony some of the mimics allow you to use them as equipment.

When raising a mimic shield to block an attack it could catch or maybe even break a sword in its jaws. When wearing a mimic helm you may get advantage on intimidation checks as the top of your head grins at your enemies. Etc

When you choose this background, work with your DM to decide what items your mimics would disguise themselves as (when disguised the mimics keep the same stats as whatever they turn into), effects your mimics would have, and what kind of experiences you had during your time under their care.
