The Lancer background represents warriors renowned for their speed, precision, and mastery of polearms. Whether a valiant knight, a mythical guardian, or a divine warrior, the wielder of a legendary spear is a force to be reckoned with. Lancers are known for their ability to control the battlefield, striking with both devastating power and uncanny agility. These Polearm masters bear the abilities of specific otherworldly Heroes connected to their weapon mastery, possessing their signature through the form of a "Noble Phantasm". (Choose 1 ability from the "Noble Phantasm" list.)

- Tool Proficiencies: Carpenter’s Tools or Mason’s Tools

Noble Phantasms
Gáe Bolg – The Spear of Piercing Death (Cu Chulainn)
Usage: 3/Long Rest
Effect: You make a single Gáe Bolg thrust that inverts causality, ensuring a near-certain hit. Choose one creature within 30 feet—this attack cannot miss unless they are immune to critical hits. The target takes 8d10 piercing damage and must make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 + proficiency + Strength or Dexterity modifier). On failure, they are cursed, halving all healing they receive for 1 minute.
Arondight – The Unfading Light of the Lake (Lancelot)
Usage: 2/Long Rest
Effect: You conjure the sacred lance Arondight, glowing with indestructible radiance. For 1 minute, you gain the following:
- +2 to attack and damage rolls
- Resistance to necrotic and psychic damage
- Advantage on saving throws against magic
Additionally, if you are fighting a dishonorable foe (a liar, betrayer, or coward), your critical hits deal triple damage instead of double.
Vajra – Indra’s Divine Thunderbolt (Vritra)
Usage: 2/Long Rest
Effect: You strike the ground with Vajra, releasing an explosion of divine lightning in a 30-ft radius. All creatures in the area must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC 8 + proficiency + Strength or Wisdom modifier) or take 7d10 lightning damage and be stunned until the end of their next turn. Creatures that succeed take half damage and are not stunned.
Feng Tian Hua Ji – Celestial Windstrike (Nezha)
Usage: 1/Short Rest
Effect: You perform a spinning multi-hit attack, striking all enemies in a 15-ft radius. Each creature must make a Dexterity saving throw or take 6d8 slashing damage. You may also deflect all ranged projectiles (arrows, bolts, non-magical spells) targeting you for this round.
Roma Invicta – Spear of the Eternal Empire (Romulus)
Usage: 1/Long Rest
Effect: You plant your spear into the ground, creating a 20-ft radius aura for 1 minute. Allies inside gain +2 AC, resistance to non-magical damage, and advantage on attack rolls. Enemies must make a Wisdom saving throw when they enter the area or be charmed, believing they are loyal subjects of Rome.
Thermopylae Enomotia – Last Stand of the Spartans (Leonidas)
Usage: 3/Long Rest
Effect: When reduced to 0 HP, you may activate this Noble Phantasm instead of falling unconscious. For the next 3 rounds, you remain standing and cannot die (even if your HP reaches -100). You can still take damage, but you continue fighting. When the effect ends, you fall unconscious and must start making death saving throws as normal.
