You come from an order of monks living in a lone monastery somewhere in the Lonely Mountains. Life there is rough, with monks barely surviving. The weather is harsh, and the barren ground gives you barely enough to live off of. Also, the Mountains are roamed by a clan known as the Usgutor, a roving band of hill giants led by their chieftain, Usgut. The monastery was destroyed when Usgut and his vassals assaulted the monastery. The monks fled, wandering to Gladinton and its surrounding villages. Today, they live as beggars.
You start with enough gold to live modestly for 10 days, or have that time at a comfortable lifestyle. How did you come by that money? Did you become an adventure as a continuation of your search for a better life, or did you have other reasons?

They will shield you from the law or anyone else searching for you, though they will not risk their lives for you.
